Lending Library Still Has Bad Problems!

I was all excited after waiting months for the Lending Library to get "fixed" I saw the announcement, and signed up for two videos. Then many days later, I get a notice that the videos were in fact sent out to another member, but were not changed to "checked out" I am still waiting. No telling when I will see them. I intend to watch, and return the videos I borrow. Shouldn't the person who has these return them in a timely manner? Why don't you "fine" us if we are late. I think that would be fair, and would pay the fine myself if I am late. The Lending library is looking like it may never be what it was designed to do. I still hope for the videos, but if I have to wait for another 3 - 4 months, I probably will give up on the process. Is it working for anyone else?

I am sure it will work out for ya. Patience will pay off. It's not exactly a public library system. Just stick it out and before you know it your mind will be exploding with glass knowledge.

The lending library is a labor of love taken care of by a few people who still have work to do and mouths to feed. You can't expect it to be run like a business.

Mer has been at my place for 2 weeks recovering from DFO. He just got back home yesterday. I know he has been in contact with you about your request. please remember that this forum is built of volunteers.

As stated, the library is a labor of love that Mer donates he and his wife's time to maintain. Either have patience or get on the net and buy what you want. If it gets to be to big of a PITA, then it might just get closed down. Then everyone loses.

thanks for the support you guys. 10cut, i've been very polite with you about the fact that you checked out a vid that wasn't in. it's not a simple process, i'm still learning to coordinate an excel file with the website, it's kind of over my head, you know this though since i've already explained and apologized for the mistake.

that being said, you're the only one who's made any complaints to me. i got you most recent message yesterday on an airplane about to take off so i couldn't respond right away, not that i would really know what to say to your increasingly impolite stance.

i'll figure out the situation but if you're really frustrated enough to write me that email and start a thread i think you may be taking the whole deal too serious. this isn't a corporation, it's one guy with a box full of vids and a website trying to figure out how it all works.

i don't think anybody else is waiting on anything right now but it there is please bring it to my attention and i'll do my best to take care of it, as i have been. i've always done my best by this community, the library is a new challenge but i'm hoping that the people who are having positive experiences outweigh the fact that there was a glitch in the availability status on one order.

in time i'll have it smooth like butter, for now i'm working on learning the software/programs required to make sure that the information stays current.

Also Cutfingers, I gotta say, were it me in Mer's position, if two people put in an order at the same time for a video, and one was a valued member with multiple posts to their name, and the other was a member who up until this point had only made one other post, and that post was also kind of bitching about the library situation, I think you can guess who I'd chose to send the video to first.

I'm not at all suggesting that this is what happened, I'm just saying, your only purpose here so far seems to be to take advantage of the library, and other than that you haven't taken any part in the community, so if you are treated with a lower priority than a regularly contributing member, don't let that be a surprise to you.

Sorry if I'm out of line here, but your thread really rubbed me the wrong way, and I feel that this needs to be said.

It just seems a little un greatfull to me. If you need them that bad, buy them. You could go to smatflix but your going to wait for the good ones on there also.

I can offer a solution if you want one. A MySQL database and a few hundred lines of code (PHP) would give you the ability to keep an online database and still be able to download your inventory in an Excel format. Yes Php PEAR has an Excel writer package. I know the forum has several peeps capable of writing this code, but ...................

Worked for me. I am late returing book! But it was a 4 months before I got it because its a new system. I am going to give back a extra book and vid.

Same guy that runs the library just held a flame off.

Your vid was checked out get over it. I waited almost 4 months.

I'm surprised that vids are even being lent out to brand new members. Seems extremely risky imo.
Btw I got to see the box of DVD's and Vids that are in the lending library and its impressive. Such a sweet deal that its even available.
Mer breaks his neck for the forum members and handling the library in his own spare time. He's way too diplomatic though.. he should have told you to go stick someting somewhere special.

OK OK, I get the picture. I am so sorry if I offended anyone. I suppose I got in at the wrong time on the lending library. I paid, and then found that the library was not working. I waited... Then there was a big announcement saying "Hooray!" that it was back up. I found the two videos I wanted to see, and saw they were in stock, so paid the shipping, and ordered them. I waited... I go to check on my order and found they were lent out, so I waited...

Twice, on my first post, and to Mer directly I suggested what I thought was a good suggestion to look at http://browsecollection.com/ to help. Looks as if it is a pretty easy way to track a lending library! No response. As far as other posts, I am brand new to the art. I have the "gotta get more knowledge passion" right now, and have nothing to share because I don't know anything! That's why I was excited about the videos.

It looks as if even my lame post will maybe turn out for some good, as it got some more wanting to donate videos, etc. But if I truly did offend anyone, and cannot be forgiven, if just two people tell me to get off, (I'll be watching) I will cancel my membership, and you will not hear from me again. Or, if the moderator wants to cancel me, I suppose that's fine too. Sorry

I still can't figure out why we had the glitch in the system. the website has a catalog system, and it should have marked it as checked out like normal, and not let anyone order it. this isn't mer's mistake, this is a software glitch. it happens.
