I just finished this commission Sunday, took me some tries to get the balance
worked out - the dragonfly rests freely on the marble, balanced perfectly on top.
The dragonfly itself is Effetre black encased with iridescent (reduced) Double
Helix glass over the entire body, except the legs and segment-separators
of the tail. The wings are a light topaz with greenish iridescence.
The marble is a double-twist ribbon consisting of two layers of dichro - Effetre
clear with yellow/orange dichro and Effetre transparent emerald green with green dichro.
Enjoy!
Wes.

damn dude, you never cease to amaze. I tried making some bugs out of soft glass after I saw some of your other stuff, but that stuff is like shrapnel. the lacework on those wings are crazy- did you crisscross some stringers or cut up a retti?

Yowza! I always enjoy seeing your work. That is one sweet dragonfly - how did you like working with the Double Helix glass? The wings are incredible, as is everything else.:kickflip::clap:

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

I used "lineman's pliers" to press the pattern in there. Tool available at any hardware store!

Great work - did you make the wings and body separate, garage them before the attachment to the marble?

wings made beforehand (in batches!), attached to body (not preheated). NOTHING is attached to marble - the dragonfly is fitted to it and balances on top.

ok, now you've gone past my skills. What do you mean when you say attached to the body? Did you glue the wings?????

Uh, attached as in melted on. Just not garaged as you had suggested before.
Just wanted to emphasize that the critter is not attached to the marble, as your wording suggested.
big wow, checked out your web site and just some amazing work.
