i saw a heat gun that goes to 1200 degrees i think it could be used to keep areas of a piece hot while working another area in the flame. i also think that i could strike colors; maybe with better control; certainly different. anyone tried this?

Seems like a solution to a problem that isn't there. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but seems like a lot of trouble to me.

i prefer to use a hand torch inside a kiln

it's been a minute since i've been here but my advice to you is to say WTF and give it a whirl-- start with test pieces, then if it works --- YAY! new tech never came from staying within the lines... good luck.

Try blasting your thermocouple. Doubt you'll get it over 900. Very skeptical here.
Heat guns are for while your piece is in the kiln and you need to kill time ... lol

that is a good starting point Marcel. if it doesn't do that, stop.

One thing I would mention, make sure when you run it you have it on a separate circuit than the kiln. Reason being, a heat gun pulls a lot of juice, just like any electrical heating element and if you run it on the same circuit as the kiln, chances are you'll blow a fuse. Seems like an interesting concept though. It couldn't hurt to try.
