I need to make a piece with a space dust encasement and I'm not sure what the best materials or mix is. Anyone got a special recipe for me?

How about some silver filings mashed on the back of a disk or encased in a tube?

Buying it at Micheal's is your best bet. Everyone I know that asked for it, ended up getting it there. It's cheap and it looks cool too.

For flowing/wave goop incasement, use rubbing alcohol and paint thinner and a few drops of food coloring, cap with resin and wait a few days for the two to separate.

Mineral oil, food colouring, and mica powder (a.k.a. pixie dust). There's a thread that Misha started that has some ideas.
You are talking about liquid, right?

Baby oil and water work with food coloring too. For the spacey look we used metallic powders that can be found at any art/craft store. As Brad said this would be used for the water encasment pieces, not for using in the torch.

I used to make TONS of these things. I just used the SPARKLY gel pens from any art store. Take the liquid out (just a little) and mix with water, or water and food coloring for a different color.

Hope that helps!

Can one heat the mica powder in the flame? I'm going to make a liquid filled pizzle with (gasp) AntiFreeze! It glows in the dark (black light) ya know....

Just had an idea. Take some glow powder and mix it in or take one of the new glow sticks and crush it into frit and mix in the liquid.

instead of anti freeze maybe a highlighter and water would be safer(non toxic).. i used to do that in highschool. it glows too...

the sickest "vortex" liquid is water, mother of pearl dust(craft stores), and calligraphy ink.

Ya! what ryan said! Its moreSWIRLY than sparkly, and theres no separation. But I havent done it for 5-7 years!

you only need 2 ingredients tho, you can buy the caligraphy ink that is swirly with the mother of pearl
and add water

good luck, if u havent done this already :)

I used to use dishwashing liquid, it comes in different colours and it all glows under a black light. Syringe it in and hot seal. Anti-freeze sounds a bit suspect to me.

According to an old french recipe, anti-freeze is only good to sweeten your wine with ....

In regards to powders you'll probably have to check out different liquids to find one which will keep the powder in suspension the best. I tried that, too (with the lunaris? dust), a few years ago, but then I had better things to do than spend the time to frig around with that.
