Just got my cabinet, pressure pot, compressor and all that stuff and now I need to get my media but was wondering what most people are using for blasting glass.

Thanks :O

I use aluminum oxide. Silicon carbide works much faster and lasts longer, but is a lot more dangerous if inhaled, so I switched. If your system is top notch without leaks and your dust collector is awesome, then I would use Sic. If you have a leaky cabinet or your dust collector is not the best, I would go with alox.

My 2 cents anyways..

Aluminum oxide. Because of Mechas comments on safety. Make sure though you still use a mask when filling the cabinet or changing out grit sizes. I like having 80, 120 and 240 always on hand for different applications.

NO matter how good your dust collector is or how well sealed your cabinet is, use dust mask when changing grits or USING cabinet.....

A P100 or N100.... After a little time, you will notice even with best dust collector (HEPA filter) and good cabinet seals there will be dust everywhere near cabinet, you don't realize it but you will be breathing it too.......

Cool deal, appreciate the advice always
I will go with the Aluminum oxide
I got one of the Badboy sandblaster cabinets and i upgraded to the larger vacuum
http://www.badboyblasters.com/id74.html so I guess I will see how it does with leaks soon enough
More questions to come i bet
thanks

Looks like a nice cabinet for sure. It works pretty good to chaulk necessary seams when you put it together and before you get grit into it for extra security.

Yeah, I definitely third the suggestion for a good respirator. I picked one up at grainger for like $40 with cartridges. Don't go with the cheepy paper ones you get at home depot.

As dale pointed out, the grit will start to get everywhere around the cabinet, so it is best to do your blasting (all cold work really) in another room. When that grit gets on the glass, it is a bitch to clean off and if you don't get it all, it burns a nice scum onto the surface of your work.

Ordering a respirator at the moment, this saved me another thread post. I was going to post asking what else I should get for safety.
Thanks for the help, I am putting all my cabinet stuff as far away from my hotwork area as I can.
I am excited to get this up and running :O
