I don't know much about "pink" gold but you can fume just fine with 22k. Some people even prefer it over the 24k

I think pink gold cannot be 22k ...14k plus alloys. Probably won't fume for shit. ..

correct myself there is 22k rose gold.

appears the alloy is mostly copper.

Pure gold is 24kt. by metric weight

18 kt gold is 18 parts 24kt. + 6 parts alloy by weight.

14kt. gold is 14 parts 24kt + 10 parts alloy by weight

10kt gold is 10 parts 24kt +14 parts alloy by weight

The alloy that is used in mfg. of gold is a combination of copper, silver, and other metals. By varying the combination of metals in the alloy, gold of various colors can be produced. I can make rose (pink), yellow, white , and green gold. If I had a hydrogen furnace, I could make blue and purple gold.

There would not be enough alloy (usually copper) in 22kt. to make much of a difference in color.

There's a difference in 22k vs 24k gold. For one or two fumings, anyways. After that the gold is pretty much 24k. The reason is that in yellow gold anyways, the only other alloy metal should be silver. Some commercial alloys contain germanium, but other metals color the alloy.

After you heat the gold once or twice you've likely melted out all the silver and reduced your gold to 24k or close to it.

But those first few fumings with it, the mixture of gold and silver you can get results in some pretty nice effects.

yeah i like mixing gold and silver 2 parts silver to 1 part gold. the silver burns out way before the gold so i have to add more. also i use a less reducing flame to try to get the gold to fume with the silver more.

mountain said some people find that the pink gold sticks better but it only seems to behave that way a couple times probably because the copper is all burned out.

i think im gonna mix some today and see what happens.(dont worry smoke tests show not much escapes my ventilation.)

also since ruby colors are copper based does that affect how fume sticks, reacts

copper looks like balls for fuming....

i swear by 22kt gold wire from rio grande. wire= no waste. 100$ of gold lasts me a year or so, and i probably do as much gold fuming as anybody

I got some gold from Goldsmithy.

I think he said it was green gold. He threw it in on another purchase I made from him. I havent used it yet but will soon on the right project.

I use 22k over 24 anymore. 24 wipes off way to easily.
