I'm agree with him for Rudolf and Leopold Blaschka but I think it's good to put Kurt Wallstab with them. Wallstab have explore one of the most interressant technic in lampwork: Montage , more than a technical way of working glass is a way of thinking about glass making. What I like in changing axis of work (I mean moving the points around the piece) is the paralel with what I think is a good way to take an idea or life.
maybe for an idea but I don't like my life manipulated

For flameworkers... alot of people qualify for very different reasons. I'm surprised Mickelsen didn't say myself as the best because we all know I rock and have so much money now that I drove my Porsche into my helicopter at my other mansion.
Ginny Ruffner comes to mind. As do others... Cesare, Lucio, Stankard... people who have elevated the community of flameworking with their generous contributions of time and energy... but mostly opening different doors with their work technicaly as well as aestheticaly.
So determining the best is very, very difficult and anytime you do... someone brings up that their candidate was left out. But a fun thing to look at nonetheless.

Isnt it fun to think how you personally will never be the best? There will always be someone better than you no matter what. But hey, if you are blowing glass to be the best, then you are in it for the wrong reasons. Its all about having fun and doing what you love....

Rex Trimm is by far the best glass worker on the planet. I have one of his first quality pieces that he signed for me, and I will treasure it forever. His craftmanship and attention to detail is unparalleled... it's no wonder he drives a Porche and has mansions with heliports. Here is a photo of his masterpiece:
