Here's a neat catalogue of LED's suitable for a variety of applications; (clicky (http://www.superbrightleds.com/))

and some information clarifying the technical aspects; (clicky (http://www.theledlight.com/ledcircuits.html))

Yes man no probs it was your questions that reminded me I needed to get back to a project.

How far did you get with yours display, any success?

If anyone is an LED genius I need to pick your brains;

can I use a phone-charger kind of power supply to power up 12volt LED bulbs?

TIA

depends on your phone charger supply ... most are AC and won't work,
you need a DC transformer for most LEDs

if your question was more along the line of using a plug-in transformer that looks like a phone charger, then yes you can ... you'll need to get a DC transformer

something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Power-Supply-Transformer-WAll-Plug-DC-12V-1A-LED-CCTV_W0QQitemZ370266010752QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item563592f480

the LEDs I've played with are modules with 4 high intensity LEDs in each module, and a transformer like that one will run 20 modules.

Aussie, once again you ROCK!!! :blowkiss:

Swampy - no progress yet, except yesterday I bought a 25w soldering iron and some 60/40 rosin core solder. Just bought me some LED ribbon (been looking for some with a white background, THANKS AGAIN Aussie - I'd rep you but gotta spread the love some more first) and an adapter. Now just have to wait for those to arrive.

In the meantime, I'm going to practice soldering with some old adapters...

Here are two really stupid questions:

1) Why are AC/DC adapter cords (and most electric cords!) black?!? Wouldn't you think they would be white, so they don't look so ugly against white walls? I found a *few* white DC adapters, but they're way more expensive.

2) Why are all of the LED ribbon lights from Aussie's link (above) like 1/4 the price on any US-based websites? Is it because they're being shipped directly from China? Granted, shipping doubles their price but STILL that's 1/2 the price of anything listed on US websites. I guess we'll see what the quality is when they arrive, but you KNOW all the ones listed on the US-based websites are made in China...

I've been determined to make a project similar to this one I saw a while back: http://hacknmod.com/hack/diy-led-light-door-project/ using sandblasted designs and multiple levels of artwork but I have been stymied by the technical side of it as well as the cost of all those LEDs.

Thanks swampy for putting it back in my head... maybe this winter will be the time to actually get it done.

I scored ten LED bulbs from Sylvia Biz (http://stores.ebay.com/Sylvia-biz-Store?_rdc=1) on eBay because it was the only place I could find that particular style of bulb.

Now I'm stuck with trying to find a power supply and bulb holders suitable for a six-bulb lighting arrangement.

I can put something like that together but when it comes to figuring out what I need, I'm blinded by science.

So if you can suggest what I need to get it set up I'd appreciate that, thanks mate.

Edited to add;

If you can tell me what I need from either of the two sites mentioned at post #1 that would neat, thanks in advance.
