breaking up opals

i just bought a 2 gram chunk of opal and what to know the best way to chop it up.

any ideas would be cool.

Just slap the whole thing on the side of a Wrap and rake bubbler, and be straight ballin.

2 grams = 1 1/2" long 1/2" think 1/2" wide

Disc nippers in a plastic bag so you don't lose any.

a pair of disk nips over a piece of paper to catch all the little dust and stuff that also breaks off. Then you can fold the paper and pour it into a container.

i heard once that you could heat it up and drop it in water, anyone ever tried that?

I like to use dykes to chip the opals.

Yah disc nippers work fine.

I just tried filing one into multiple small pieces and rolling a tube over it and sleeving and it worked out pretty good.
