Since, as far as I know, neither tar nor nicotine is water soluble, it doesn't surprise me a whole lot. I've always assumed that the only advantages of water vs none is that the smoke is cooler (and easier on the lungs), and some of the secondary particulate matter is filtered out...

yeah,

it's more harmful because it allows you to inhale more. read a study a while back that suggested that pipes/cigs with filters are the "safest"

I thought it was just cause it sounds cool. No but really if the water isn't changed regularly you can get mold growing and then you are inhaling stuff that is really bad.
Keep that water clean.
