a year ago today i set up my first torch and made a pipe. i have learned a lot in the past 12 months. i'd like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way. i couldn't have gotten this far without you all. this will be my "year 2 thread". i hope you all enjoy it. :bouncy:

i'm not sure i understand the pipe with the sideways bowl hole?

If you buy a bowl push with a small metal spike, it helps center the bowl hole strait down AND it prevents the bowl from getting too hot and closing the hole you just popped. I usally use this tool first and hope I pushed down enough, if not THEN I grab the 1/2 inch graphite rod and push again. I think the spike will cause crackage if the spike draws enough heat from the hole. It nice to have both pushes.

I love the mod looks like a tight set up.

here is another little jewel if you work majors and red-max's I learned it here but it buried deep in the threads.

If you minor was on top you could bend it down to point into your big flame like stated above a cross fire so to speak.

Then when popping large hole on clear or clear cased stuff I would set a nice tight flame on the minor and crack just the propane on the major then you can warm up a large area really even basking type heat.

Its kinda a novelty but I have told a few that have maj/Min and they actually reported they use it for a few things.

i've been working out of a paragon SC-2 bead kiln. my new F-130 arrived 2 days ago. i knew i was fighting my old kiln. half of my thoughts while working were preoccupied with trying to figure out how to get pieces in and out of my "bead door". i could open the whole door and feed my blowtube thru the back side, then close the door holding the piece by the blowtube. this was awkward and often led to burnt fingers. now i have NO worries. my mind is now clear to focus on my actual work. i am amazed at how much easier things are now and the new doors(pun intended) that have opened in just one sitting. there's no holding me back now. :bouncy:

it works as a stemless. without me even meaning it to. i just checked it out and it actually works really well with a little water in it. i hate the fact that they get so dirty and stinky so quick though. this is why i tend not to use or make many of them. people seem to want them so things may change. i really enjoyed making it. i didn't dirty it, just checked it empty to see if it worked with water. :chilling:


i love the color. it soaked in the kiln at 1125 for 20 mins during the annealing cycle. i have to throw it back in to polish a punty mark. maybe a second run thru the striking cycle will change the colors. i hope not though. :)

i just tried it. i've been fooled. it didn't fume at all. it gave off green fume such as copper would and none of it would stick to the glass. not gold. :(

my people(loyal customers) won't quit buggin me about how cool they are, so i made a few to shut 'em all up. :D

it was my feeble attempt at making something in "girl colors". a few people that already own some of my other stuff want pieces for their girlfriends.

it wasn't anywhere near as fun as 10 other things i could have been doing. like mowing my lawn. :)


i got a cannon SX200 IS. not anything crazy expensive, but i'm getting a few decent pics out of it. a bunch of useless ones as well. i think that happens with all cameras though. i just clear my card and try again.

no, but that is a good idea. i have issues when it comes to the sculpted ones. i do all the sculpting then attach the fitting. it can be tricky due to the lopsidedness of the piece. a bridge would help a lot. i am using GonG holders so i'd have to figure out a way to attach a bridge. hmmmmm, .......

i use a knife to score the ground joint and the i break it off

i think its the score wich creates theese bubbles along with too much heat, ithink i will flame cut them , i´ll see how that works

Those scum bubbles are from scoring. Flame cut and you should be good.

if you attach a rod to your work that you're sticking onto the ground joint, and then clamp that rod to the ground joint tool, it would be a brace, right?

i never brace those so i could be talking outta my ass, just seems like it might work.

i haven't used green exotic in months. the recent greens are actually blue caramel frit, blown out.

the stand up hammer with the eyeball is the blue caramel frit one. it always turns green on me. i made a maria then imploded a bunch of frit into it. then blew it out and drew some lines of clear on it and reduced it back down. it's encased in clear yet it came out green anyways.
