View Full Version : FXD propane additive
A lampworker from who I bought some equipment from locally told me about this product FXD. It is some form of hydro- carbon that apparently helps the propane burn at a higher temp. I dont know the exact wya it works but he has been using it for about 15-20 years. I bought some and added it into my propane tank before filling and am seeing how it works. He also said it helps with boiling and so far it seems to help.
Is there any one else who has used this product?

Sounds like Chemoline that RCD was selling yrs ago. Wonder how it treats glass and what will it do to a torch? Like I really need a hotter flame, lol.

It burns the propane hotter so you don't need as much oxy. I actually bought his Carlisle (pretty old) which was using that in it's propane supply. The torch runs perfect.

if i'm not misreading the data (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_of_combustion), both methanol and xylene have less energy (BTU) per given amount than propane. while alcohols and toluene/xylene have been used to boost octane ratings of fuels (less pre-ignition etc.) they should reduce the temperature of the resulting flame. it might help with boiling sensitive colors the same way mixing in air (either into your o2 or as a third component) does.
