Hey guys and gals! I'm PGW and I'm new to this forum as well as glass itself, so now that I've been approved to post, here's my intro:
Let me first say that if you don't like long intros, you might not want to continue reading :D.
I'm a guy in my mid thirties that's been around the block a bit. I'm looking to get into glass as a career. Reason-being.....I was operating a small upstart construction company in '06 when I fell off of a step ladder and shattered my left knee. I spent the next 6 months between bed/couch-ridden and a wheelchair. Anyway.....I now have a disability that doesn't really allow me to work a "regular job". That part is fine with me because I always preferred working for myself anyway. So after a good bit of part-time construction work and some soul-searching, I've decided that glass is the way forward for me.
I've done a lot in the past with fire, metalurgy, and dangerous jobs. So I think I can be pretty confident in knowing this is something I can really sink my teeth into. I love art--always have. At one point I was pretty proficient with ink. I also have found myself to be much better at doing ONE THING at a time and doing it nearly perfect as opposed to mulitasking--which I truly suck at...lol. So basically what I'm saying is that if there ever was something that I thought I could be good at, glass is it.
It's great to have found this forum. It seems for the most part that folks here not only know what they're talking about, but are plenty helpful as well. I've been doing a lot of reading here and have learned a great deal so far. I only have one question:
Which torch is the single best one for me?
JUST KIDDING!!
On a serious note though, I will be posting a thread in Torch section asking for a nudge in the right direction. I've narrowed my choices down to three and will describe there what I intend to use it for in detail. So if your bored and clicking around, maybe you wouldn't mind checking it out.
See y'all on the boards....
