Hi folks. I’ve been MIA for a while, but I wanted to give you all an update as to what’s happening this year at AGI. We have a great lineup for our 10th anniversary, and we will DEFINITELY squeeze in some surprises that will be announced at a later date : )

AGI Schedule (in alphabetical order)

Bandhu Scott Dunham:
Bandhu is the author of several books, including the premier book for our industry (currently in its third printing), “Contemporary Lampworking”.

Not only is Bandhu known for his books, he is also known for his amazing kinetic sculptures. He will be working on a glass “machine” throughout the week, and also slipping in a slide presentation or two.

This year we will honor Bandhu by dedicating a building to him, and he will be available for book signing. Bring your books with you if you have them, or get one while you’re here!

Glass Alchemy… with Thomas Grimmett and Mike Shelbo
In addition to being the tenth anniversary of AGI, it is also the tenth anniversary of our sponsor, Glass Alchemy, LTD. In addition to a presentation about color, they will have a special surprise for us!

Have you seen those cool “Goblin heads” on the GA posters? That’s my man Mike Shelbo who made them!

Barry Lafler:
There’s no point in scheduling Barry for anything. He works all the time, and demonstrates just about everything throughout the week at his personal outdoor studio near the camp fire.

Robert Mickelsen:
Robert never ceases to amaze us, and seems to reinvent himself at least once a year. He has a vast arsenal of techniques that he can share with us, and the subject matter will be announced at a later date, but it will surely be something you won’t want to miss.

*Note: Since we currently do not have any subject matter planned this early in the game, here’s a chance to give your input as to what you would like to see Robert do while he is here. Please post your suggestions, and let’s see what will be happening this year!

BTW- Robert requested a time slot at the end of the week, so after his demo he can kick some ass in the traditional Friday Night “Texas Hold’em” poker game!!

Andrew Moch:
Among his many talents, Andrew is very well versed in photography and editing, and will be conducting a presentation and photographing your work, and how to touch them up in Photoshop. Presentation is everything, and this will help many of us that are weak in those areas.

Ben Nelson:
Ben has a Bachelors degree in marketing and he will be conducting two presentations.

The first session will be tailored to those artists who have a focus on outdoor and indoor art shows who use festivals to display and sell their work. I will be discussing consumer behavior, proper influence techniques, and many other aspects of sales that are often overlooked.

The second session will be tailored to those artists who have a focus on obtaining and maintaining wholesale accounts. I will emphasize understanding your customer, proper communication techniques, and negotiation tactics.

Each session will be followed with an opportunity for questions and answers.

Roger Parramore:
Roger is a world renowned glass artist and teacher, and his precise style has earned him the nickname “The Human Lathe” over his almost 40 year career. In addition to being an exceptional glass worker, he also produces “Parramore Colors” (formerly The New Color Company)

Roger works with amazing precision, and there is much to be learned from his style. From author Bandhu Scott Dunham: “Among lampworkers, some of the most sublime goblet bowls are created by Roger Parramore, who pays respect to the Venetian tradition. His scientifically-derived technique produces simple, dramatic, deliciously satisfying forms.”

He is also an excellent narrator as he demonstrates, explaining in detail every step of the process.

Salt:
Lucan, a.k.a. Salt, is one of the most popular up and coming artists in the glass scene. He will be sharing his unique color and shaping techniques with us, and the subject matter will be announced at a later date.

I received several phone calls about his demo last year, and one of them was from Kevin Beecher (“Chef” at AGI): “Working with Salt completely changed the way I work with glass. I’m doing things now that I never thought were possible”

Alex Ubatuba:
Back by popular demand, Alex will be running his outdoor furnace and glory hole. Instruction will be provided to flare beer bottles into tumblers, and will be open to all guests.

Lewis C. Wilson:
With an amazing career spanning 40+ years, Lewis Wilson is my hero. If it were not for the videos he produced, I would not have found this medium, nor would AGI or “Wonka World” exist.

From Apollo 15 at NASA, to Knott’s Berry farm, to Bull rider, to Karate champion, to Disneyland, to show promoter… Lewis has done it all. He has been called the “P.T. Barnum” and the “Forrest Gump” of Glass.

His talent and experiences extend far beyond working glass and you will love to hear his colorful stories as he demonstrates some of his best selling and most profitable items, which can be adapted to various styles or skill levels.

This year, “old school” will be working with “new school”, and Lewis will be collaborating with Salt on a project that is yet to be detrrmined!

Other:

The main piece of constructive criticism we have received is the timing of the meals during the event. Since we have only been providing food for 2 years, we have learned some things and will be making the appropriate changes.

This year, we will have 3 meals per day and they will be served at specific times. A menu will be provided in your program so you will know exactly what will be served on each day. Of course Kevin, Ivan, and Steve (Nutty) will always have something available to munch on no matter what time it is.

I’ll keep you posted on the updates, and we look forward to seeing you all in August!!!

Tom and Elaine Doner
(a.k.a., "Mr. and Mrs. Wonka")

FYI: We are over ½ full for this year, so don’t hesitate if you would like to attend. We offer very flexible payment terms, so give us a call, or visit us at www.glass123.com/agi.html

*NOTE: This schedule is subject to change without notice.

I am totally excited :)..... I have been talking to Emilio in the past couple of weeks and he keeps meaning to call you guys but forgets.... i swear the man's memory is like a sieve :P. Anyways if you guys could give him a call and light a fire under his arse that would be great especially since you guys are half full.... he says he is thinking about buying himself a spot and just coming to work and have fun. I think it would be awesome to have him there, i know i always learn a lot from him lol

Sounds like a great lineup! I'm sorry I won't be there for the week. As it looks now Butch and I will be there Sunday night or Monday mid day, leaving Tuesday am for the National RC Helicopter competition in Indiana.
