On 2/25/10 at approximately 5:45am, two lowlife thieves broke into The Joint and stole a couple ridiculous items. The following video is security footage fro...m the event and details what was stolen. At one point, the thief was so dumb to put his face one foot away from a camera and had no idea. He is asking to get caught...

if three people worked on it, three people get paid. they grow the electroformed metal on the glass. it sometimes breaks the piece. two of the artists live in va an one in pa so i sure it took a few weeks to complete.

hitting the $300 dollar mark is easy retail, it is alot harder to get $300 wholesale...which means the store(depends on which one) marks it at $500-750. not many baller sales like that everyday......

You don't get discounts unless you're buying copper from a refinery, and they wont talk to you unless you're putting up $1,000,000 or more for large tonnage.

Also, the copper has to be from copper salts, which cost more than metallic copper.

1 qt of bright copper solution costs me about $20

They probably had at least 5-10 gallons.

Then you have to use a pure copper anode, usually copper roofing plates or sheet copper - $20+ per pound, and they probably needed 20 pounds or more to get 10 pounds on the glass.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have over $250 worth of copper on that piece alone.

Then you're looking at time. For that heavy deposit at least 24 hours.


Nevermind the cost of the rectifier and other equipment, patina chemicals, etc.

I would suspect that just on cost of materials they invested $750-1000 on that piece.

Good point, when the news was showing the shop, I was like, Wow they got a lotta stuff! If I bought glass rather than sold it, I would want to go check it out.

i am aware of the laws. the owner of the shop said the tube holds no value now. i find this very hard to believe. it could easily be cleaned. in fact, add this story to it and it's value should INCREASE. if it is a collectible anyways. good, documented stories always add value to collectibles.

It is the fact that the piece WAS used that makes it unsellable, its current state of cleanness does not matter even if there is no traceable amount of thc in it. It would be a crime for a store owner to sell a piece that they know was used for something illegal..... now if it was used and then cleaned and the store owner had now knowledge of it then that may be a different story.
