Hey Pete,
Whatever you do, don't buy cheapo chinese shit from sundance. It is absolute crap. Pyrex was what I ordered last and it has been working wonderfully for me. But I hear that Simax is what most people seem to like the best. Next time I order clear stock I'll be trying Simax out. I'm also interested in trying out the US Trading Glass clear. I think most people have been happy with it so far. Sorry I don't have much experience to draw from...mainly hearsay. But I can tell you that Pyrex works well and chinese stuff is shit. Hope that helps :)

Simax with Kimble being a close 2nd. Simax is more even walled but it seems like the kimble takes fume better and looks better with fume.

"it seems like the kimble takes fume better and looks better with fume."

Its funny, this shows how opinions can vary so much. I feel like kimble leaves an orange, or dark-not color changing fume. I think that Simax gives you a more white or blue fume which I like better. The last case of Kimble I got was full of seeds or air bubbles. I had never seen this before and a couple of the tubes blew up when they touched the flame...big mess. Now Im aware, so I go into each tube gradually but I never had to do this with Simax or Pyrex. The other lesson I learned the hard way with kimble is they dont fire polish the ends of their tubes. I got a good gash taking a tube out of the box. I only tried them because they were cheaper, and most of the time you get what you pay for.

To each his own, but Im a Simax guy too.

I've been using Simax forever, and have rarely had any issues with it. I've had a couple little seeds, but very very rarely. I have heard that Kimble is more clear though, so I've been thinking of switching to it for my marbles. Also, Kimble is a little stiffer, Simax is more buttery. Really, I think it all depends on what you're making.

SIMAX is the most available, but definetly not the best, with out a doubt the best Clear is Schott-Duran. like other German products. the are the most consistent. you will never find second quality tubes in your case, which is commen among other brands, like Simax, and Cornings Pyrex. just adding my 2$.

I think schott-duran is waaaaayy better than simax.when i put a piece made with schott next to one made with simax , the one from schott is shinier ! plus it's more like butter to work with.I notice with simax that some tubes have a small line of bubbles going all the way down the tube. I still use simax...but only when i run out of schott.

Yup, schott is the most expensive where I shop, and Kimble is the cheapest. Proof that you get what you pay for.

Hey there , i can only speak from old school experience mid-late 90's . but i believe they no longer make pyrex at corning in america...it is now made out of the country by some one else , but real american made pyrex is the shit imo... all the old heads loved it back in the day , but i know for a fact that schott is a superior glass, really nice clear prizm to start .and if worked properly finishes beautiful... but is expensive. a friend of mine only uses simax and loves it , i agree it is buttery , but finished products have a nice luster to them ... but the glass i've used from china , and tried a piece a friend said was from india pure CRAP !! i've never had so many problems w/ cracking and shattering of glass before and after finished product. it was chinex 45 mm heavy.never again! i still have some pyrex from back in the day ,i love . but you get what you pay for , quality products are never cheap, but you may get quantity discounts ... and it never hurts to call and ask suppliers whats up , any specials? well enough from me. i just know i've always been driven to shiny things, especailly glass . so it would make sense whichever glass has a better transparancy or prizm. may look better as a finished pruduct... ie. more shiney... peace out Drue
