Hi folks.

What we’re looking to do here is pave some (or all) of the walking paths with broken colored glass. We all have tons of useless scrap lying around, and we would like to get it from you so it can be crushed into small to medium sized pieces, and then tamped / steamrolled into the paths.

If you have broken colorful beads, pendants, pipes, marbles, etc. that you want to get rid of, please forward it to the address below instead of throwing it away. This is a project we will be working on continuously, so keep it coming. If you are driving to AGI in August, please go through your scrap cans and bring anything you can.
*Please, no stringers for safety purposes

Feel free to include your name if you would like to be listed as a contributor, and we will create 6” x 6” post (4’-6’ tall) of treated lumber with everyone’s name etched into it, and then have it set it into the garden for all to see. Your “garbage” will be a permanent part of what we’re building here.

Thanks for listening, and thanks in advance for your participation!

Washington PA is an old glass town and alot of the parking lots are covered in glass cullet, and crushed up bottles,Every once in a while someone brings my a piece and tells me about a lot full of it,I just smile and tell em ill check it out,But i never do becouse its kinda blueish bland color and who knows what coe it is.

Great Idea

I second, or....5th the comment on "wont it be sharp?"

Also...no stringers? My scrap bucket is full of 100% glass only, but when I throw something in it, its gonna make shards or stringer like objects. Are you wanting only large un broken pieces that you can crush into cullet? or do you want everything? Just trying to clarify so I can help out with my scrap.

I was just talking with someone recently about doing a local version of this, his idea was to toss the scraps into a cement mixer and tumble them smooth. Not totally sure how well it would work (or how long it would take) but might be worth a try.

I too am questioning how you would do this. Cover the broken up pieces with something? Slump into bricks possibly?

Not sure if this is the method planned or not, but there is a buffer styled machine that is used to polish concrete with diamond pads. It'll make it slickern owlshit. The stringer issue may be >not enough depth< to hold it in place permanently if it lies flat at the surface. Just my thoughts.

Excellent first post, you should start a new thread about your interests... you inadvertently bumped a thread that was almost two years old and brought interest back to this... Is this even still a project Wonka????

What if a bunch of people made small donations to ship it? It would probably be cheaper than a bunch of people shipping small boxes. Just a thought.

Wow, I forgot I even started this thread! What I had in mind was scattering colorful bits of glass along some of the paths and then going over them with a roller or tamper to get rid of sharp edges. I also wanted to put strips of landscaping fabric in between the rocks and the gardens to add some interest to the place.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now that we have a cat that likes to play in the gardens, it might put him in some danger.
