or a naive one.....sorry, I haven't been in the glass world long.....
How much do galleries usually mark up your work?
I was flipping through a glass art gallery flyer and saw some dichro vortex marbles going for $500--pretty awesome price.....but what does the artist receive?

I don't know about other places, I only have my stuff in one gallery so far...but basically I give the owner the pieces on consignment, she does whatever she wants in the way of advertising, promotion, etc...and then when something sells she mails me a check for 50% of the price. We agree beforehand on the prices, with a clause in the contract that she can offer up to 10% off (sales, etc.) and we split the discount out of our respective halves.

don't know where you're from, but the galleries here in the midwest are usually 40%...I have one which is still at 35%....I do have some of my work in salons which don't take anything up to 25%....

Usually if you're selling work to a gallery they'll ask at least double the price. If it's consignment, I don't do it unless I'm getting at least 60%. If you only do 50/50 on consignment there's no insentive for them to buy anything since they get it for the same price without paying up front. I wish I could get $500 for a vortex marble, that's awesome.
