Just a word on the welds....work those welds smooth where the legs meet the body.

You'll be inviting repairs with that weld profile. See where it curves inward?

I was kinda going for that look. I totally see what your saying but theres about 5-7 joints on a spiders leg which I didn't pull off but only on those spots where it connects to the upper portion of the spider.Oh well it's the 3rd spider that I've made so I will make more adjustments in my later ones.

bad ass really like em. but yes you probably don't brace small welds like that but try to get the tip of the leg and the spot its connecting to soupy soupy hot before connecting. that should form a solid weld, if not get in there with your laser flame and zap it until it flows together

Those are beautiful, I especially like the color on the "war spider". A tip someone gave me about welds which has worked for me in my limited time behind the torch is to imagine a tiny skateboarder and if he could comfortably ride over where two points of glass meet, it should be good. Again I'm new so if that tip sounds bogus kindy disregard.

Forgive my newness but what colors did you use in the war spider?

Right on you guys. Thank you for your opinions. Next time I make something or anything that involves connecting joints I will do a better job.

nice work.

it looks like you have the skills to pay more attention to the spider's feet. i use flickr to find detail images when i need them.

for me it's super important to try to get as much detail as possible when rendering nature in glass. not in the sense of trying to do everything as real ( for me at least not necessary/worth the time/possible to try to exactly replicate nature), but in the sense of adding as many subtle, attainable details as possible. so the piece of glass will obviously not have as much detail as "real," but everywhere you look there is attention to detail.

the difference between having the spider's legs end in the little claw/pincers thing they probably have, versus a round bead of glass, will not be much difference in terms of work (time or technical skill) , but make a lot of difference in terms of the overall aesthetics and construction of the piece, and it having a more clean and finished look.

just my .02

keep up the good work

Those ae really cool. You seem to be on the right track. I do, however agree with most others; that you should put a little more heat in to the welds. Other than that they are fantastic.

Weld that bitch to a tube or large bub and that'd be a fine piece of function.
