Just thinking that it would be easier to find people's work threads if they had something like an indexed gallery.

Probably take up more space on the server to store pictures than the threads created to show work, but the advantage would be that the pictures would be a standard size and viewable.

I know there's GP, GA and people's personal websites but some folks don't use that facility.

I'd pay $10/yr for it, if it's a cost thing.

Do you mean you'd like a separate forum room with just members work in it? I am a bit confused because you have to be a registered member to post pictures so i'm not sure what you're suggesting. Do you mean us moving their work to a gallery like area of the website?

perhaps something as simple as a work thread room, like the torch room, or the safety break room.

I like this idea :) Kind of like the progression threads we see in General, only they'd be a little more organized.

Yeah so it might go;

The Melting Pot - Where All Glass Addicts Melt Together > The Melting Pot Discussion Forums > Pics, Galleries, and Websites > Members gallery >

Then an indexed list.

Like the Member's list or Wiki, something like that.

If it's of any value here, i'd offer to write the gallery pages myself. The work threads in the forums are nice, of course, but if one were to 'showcase' their works, it would be much easier on the eyes for members to be able to create their own little gallery page, rather than a forum thread.

This can be done using the existing user database for the forum, and we could even 'hack' and option on the users 'account settings' page to turn their gallery page/s on or off.

You would probably see a natural reduction in number of posts to the forum 'work' threads, but an increased amount of pics being hosted - which also means an increase in bandwidth usage ..... check your hosting package and see how close you are to the limit - if you know the ins and outs of your hosting options, (ie - server logs and stats) it's rather simple to find out how much bandwidth the server uses to transfer image files. You can use that number as a starting point to guesstimate whether or not you would need to upgrade your hosting package. a 30-50 percent increase in the bandwidth used only for image files is probably a close expectation.

If you want something quick and easy, there are several pre-packaged gallery systems that will integrate with the forum, and its user database, and give you a seamless 'gallery' complete with existing forum skin and format, and each user can still have his or her own photo gallery/s using their existing forum account.

You google vbulletin gallery, and sift throught he links, or just start here :

I'd be happy to pitch in time and expertise to implement a design and customize a plug-in/create a new system to showcase work.
