Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm seriously considering getting into Lamp working/Blowing, so much so that I've started lurking on several forums to learn as much as possible. I live in central PA, very rural and have not yet found opportunity to take a class so I will be mostly self taught. The types of glass work I'm considering are hand blown oil lamps, which would be borosilicate tubing work, marbles, and maybe some slumping. I was thinking of making marbles from old beer and wine bottles, that kind of recycling thing is very big around here, not just for sale but to get a feel for working with hot glass. As far as equipment goes I could use some suggestions, my torch budget is about $800, so I have been thinking about the Nortel Red Max, I'll be working off of bottled oxy I already have an 80 Cu. Ft. tank, or something similar. I haven't decided on a kiln just yet, I think I'll probably make a warming oven out of fire brick and an old propane stove and batch anneal.
Thanks,
Roy
