Glassroots Art Show
Madison, WI
The Monona Terrace and The Hilton Monona Terrace
November 2-6, 2010
Flame-Off November 2-3
Wholesale Buying November 4-5
Open to Public for Retail November 6
The Glassroots Art Show is an annual event supporting the community-driven movement of American Made Functional Glass.
The Flame-Off is free and open to the public!
It will be unlike any competitive glass blowing event -
12 male/female teams are randomly partnered up to create their interpretation of a functional glass piece, and will be competing over two days for $10,000 cash and a whole lot more in prizes. There will be live music and Jason Harris there to help explain what you are watching while it is going on. This is your opportunity to see some amazing glass be made in an awesome environment!
Once the pieces are complete, they will be on display in the front of the show by the registration booth, so that any Glassroots Art Show attendees can vote for their favorite.
http://www.glassrootsartshow.com/
The teams:
Brandon Martin and Amy Schmitz
CapNCrunk and Zingiber
Carver B. and Lisa’s Pieces
Chad G. and Julie Riggs
Dan P. and Corrine Winters
Down Neck and Dellene Peralta
Ghost and JoAnn Fellatia
MarbleSlinger and LaceFace
Micah Evans and Tammy Ball
Micro and Hacky Sacky
Schmitz and Delores Noggle
The Art Show:
80 Booths representing the Midwest and beyond. Vendors are artists representing their own work, shops with production lines, galleries representing a few artists, raw material suppliers, and tool makers. It is the Glassroots mission to connect the buyer directly to the artists, and limit what is being sold to pure functional glass art. As a buyer or artist, you won’t have to walk through all the extra “stuff” in order to find some high quality glass art at the best prices possible.
Please visit the website for updated event information, to register as a buyer, or to see the list of vendors and sponsors. If you are interested in vending, please fill out the contact form on the vendor page @ www.glassrootsartshow.com or email contact info to info@glassrootsartshow.com.

NO shit. The flame off is at Monona Terrace, free and open to the public?
You guys have seriously outdone yourselves this time.
I live in Madison, and a few of the Madison artists from last years show know me and can vouch for me. If you need any help with set up, moving heavy equipment or anything, let me me know. I'd be more than happy to lend a hand.

I may be down to help too, hope you guys are are planning on MUCH better ventilation this year, I know a few people that left because of it last year and even more that were complaining about it, a lot of the wholesale customers that don't blow were really griping about it. Where exactly is the flame off happening?

You got it man. I'll PM you my number, and give me a call as the event draws closer.
Alien, I think the flameoff is actually at the Monona Terrace convention center, if I'm reading that right.

Yes the Flame working is at the Monona Terrace this year in a much bigger room with much higher ceilings. The Terrace will have their state of the art ventilation system at 100% out take.
As for last year, we had ventilation set up, but it was counter productive with 3 big ass torpedo heaters running off of propane. The temp outside was around 0 for both of the flame days and it was held in an unheated warehouse. So when we would crack the side doors people would bitch and shut them causing the fumes to be over whelming. This year should be comfy as can be with live dj sets, food, beverage, and free glass giveaways. O ya and it is free and open to ALL

Yeah, I could see that being a bitch. I remember being by those doors and every time one would get cracked, it would get bitterly cold. That would definitely be a hard balance to maintain.
Still nonetheless, even if the ventilation sucked (and man, I gotta tell you, almost every time I've watched someone else blow glass, their ventilation has sucked, so I don't think I've ever seen someone else blow glass without a very light head), that was a great event. Glad to hear it's going to bigger and better this year. And the fact that it's FREE and open anyone who wants to walk in, makes it at least ten times cooler than last year!
As for the seven o'clock end time, is that when Monona Terrace shoos everyone out? Or is that more of a suggested end time, and it may run longer?
Sorry for all the questions. Once again, thanks for putting this on again this year.

The Terrace does not push us out until midnight. The plan for the torch time is they go on a 10 am. and go until 7 pm with a one hour break in the middle. This allows for the 8 hour time limit that is set for each team.
Ask away Icarus, I am glad to answer all questions.

Cool. I've gotta work until 4 each day, but there is always "glass blower time" to contend with (add 20 - 25% to any stated starting time), so I figure I'll get to see plenty of action.

trying to figure out how to make it out to this show, looks epic!
Madison sure has taken off since a tiny flame off in the back of The Vinery before they even had the flamework building...

And spiralout, I totally take back the "glassblower time" comment. That was rude of me.
