View Full Version : Dancing Behind the Torch

Sorry no video.... However, does anyone else break it down when working?
I notice if I have some funk bumpin` or some heavy bass lines that I start to groove behind the torch and with the blow tube in my hands. Before I know it I am busting a move....
Now, if I have been working prodo for 4-5 hours I can't stop moving and bobbing my head gangster style. As the glass becomes liquid hot my moves become liquid and fluid smooth. It is tooo fun.
Glassblowing in itself involves dancing and maneuvering behind the torch to reach parts of the piece you are focusing work on.
It is crazy, I drive to my shop and as soon as I spark that torch head and crank up the tunes time dilation begins and before I know it I have worked 7 hours straight without using the restroom or eating any food. Then I look and the kiln is full and I am like WTF where did the time even go !
Anyone have a video of them gettin down ?

I don't know how loud your ventilation is, but you've got to try some noise canceling headphones. Can't help but bust a groove...
I effin' love dancing, and I don't care who knows it.

Yeah, I throw down a little boogie every now and then, when I am really pleased w/ an effect, or something is going better than expected.

Yeah, I notice if I pull off something very clean or use a new technique that works out that I get very excited and dance a little jig around the studio before placing something into the kiln.

Don't give me nightmares man ! I hate that sound. Anytime I hear something crack or "chink" now I jump like I saw a ghost.
Also if you like drum n bass check out Hospital Records. Independent label from the UK I think.

I always find myself dancing, especialy when I'm getting into the groove. (no pun intended.) I often find myself wondering how I get my shoulders so loose because sometimes I really get going, but the glass always stays right where I want it. No matter how hard I'm getting down. I'm finding myself bring music I normaly wouldn't listen to into the studio, just because of the beat. Its kinda funny, I realize I've been dancing and working to badboybill and stuff that to be honest I've never really cared for. Hip hop too and I'm definatly not a "house and hip hop kinda guy".

I almost forgot, lately girltalk has taken over the studio. Check it out if you've never heard it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JBAxkZun3s I think hes a "mashup" artist or something like that. Samples a ton of shit and puts it together really cleanly into songs.
I learned to dance off the wobblegirl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lLqqR2pcws) video ME posted... I tried to dance to some dubstep while working because of this thread and burned my face repeatedly and severely.
This is phat too. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=894coNVEnsQ&feature=related) Gets REAL HEAVY at about 2:21 :D
Anytime that good music is playing I can catch myself doing a back and forth at the very least.

speaking of DnB.... i seriously make way more $$ per hour listening to it. anything good above 120 bpm works like a charm. now go check that john b link. start with podcast # 06 if you have to only pick one

Who doesn't bust it out, and why on Earth not? I love it, love it, love it!!! Certain music creates the right atmosphere for certain kinds of work, and really frees up the energy...

i'm usually movin while work. anything with a beat is good, but i could live with out reggae, and i'm partial to that motown sound.

i wouldn't say hate. i'm regularly surrounded by reggae, it seems to be the fav of most of my friends. seein that i was never a reggae fan and i hear it all the time, i never put it on in the shop.

Usually I'm tryin' to jam Down, Six Feet Under, or Job for a Cowboy, but lately I've found myself drawn towards Wu-Tang albums from the mid-90's.... WTF?:puzzled:

acoustic music is really best for me, i start groovin, and singin, and workin. its pure music, just a voice and a guitar to help my hands and the glass....

metal fucks me up but i still love it off the torch. wu tang and biggie are the only 2 that i can work on glass with....any other rap gets annoying quick
i don't have video of myself dancing, but this is how i learned:
