I am Getting rid of the HotHead and have a Lynx showing up in a few days. I have lots of 104 around, but want some 33 to try my hand at. I have only made beads so far, but talked my way into a class at Pratt with Roger Parramore next weekend. I need to sort out a nice sampler to use with the Lynx, and some help would be nice. I know I will need alot of clear, but what size would be a good place to start. How about tube? What would be a decent size to start with on the lynx?

Thanks,
Mike

I'd grab some 5mm, 8mm, 12mm and 15+mm rod. some 12mm, 19mm and some 25.4mm heavy wall tube. sounds like a good place to start.
this gives you a good little variety of solid rod for beads and the like and a few common size tubes that can be used for just about anything you and your lynx can think up.

have fun!!!

you have picked a good one roger p is very good his tube work is premo if you get a chance ask other people in the class . as for the 33 coe you will have alot of fun with it..and for the size id say 8mm to12mm and the tube up to 1 " heavy wall remember ask questions.one more thing...practice your butt off pulling points everything runs off from center.i have been working with 33 for 37 years and still i have trouble with tubeing practice...practice flame on young man you will do well glass guy dennis.

I would kill to take a roger parramore class... I did once, but spent the money on hookers and crack.

On the real I have heard very good things about Roger's teaching style... For hollow work he will make an incredible first instructor.... Great choice, Learn lots. :D

i had roger for one of my first classes back in 99. the foundation of much of my skill comes from that class! you're in good hands. take a crap load of notes, the info will flow like the glass, so be ready.

a lynx can handle up to 31 hvy without much trouble. maybe larger, but not comfortably. one inch heavy wall is really handy. roger will tell you all about medium wall, but with such a small torch, the hvy wall will help you go a little bigger.

If I where in your shoes, looking for glass for a Lynx, I know what I'd get.

4mm rod
8mm rod
12mm rod or 16mm
24(25?)mm heavy wall
You can probably manage to melt tubing up to 38mm. But at that size you may have to sacrifice wall thickness. But that's not a problem, just condense it down to the thickness you like while working.

And yes, the Parramore class will give a good foundation.:chilling:
