try looking in the pics, galleries, and websites thread - you can see what people do If peep's aren't putting up pics, they're probably not gonna talk about it anyways...

copy my stuff if you need some quick bread. not that i'm very good or anything, its just that my idea is popular and sells well. dont post up any janky bends tho, thats my claim to fame, and if you dare, get ready to get basted for it (roasted? flambayed?),

most stores i deal with won't even buy oil stuff. that crosses the line.
i make everything from bats to tubes(and everything in between, and do them in all different styles. most people that do one thing work for distros

That's kinda the way I feel about earl stuff. I make them, but only for custom orders (read: friends).
I make a shitload of dichro jewelry. Flat rod, lay a strip of dichro, lightly encase, back it in color, put some mag dots on the front, heat it up and give it a slight tug. Then I either pull the top into a loop or use a different color. $60 a pop.
I also make pipes, but less and less as I get older.

I started doing $15.00 pendnts to acomidate thee buying habits of the tourist, I use to sell these for 25. I don't want my stuff sitting in a ohh ahh conversation. They still take me 5 -10 minutes to make so, the sculpture stuff I lowered to,but there show pieces, you have to bite it sometimes if you want your work to sell.

cool thanks to those of u who have shared im just kinda wondering and i like the dicro ring idea that sounds sweet. i find myself doing alot of fume work with clear trap and w&r and chills are the fast movers up here and i get nice bread for them to i get like 8-10 for a fume bat and 14-20 for fume frit pipe so it pays halfway decent. the bead market up here is kinda big too everybody loves the pendants what ever kind they are. im not looking to rip anyones ideas off i was just kinda curious and what other fellow lampworkers make their living on. its just an interesting topic

Same here Steve (not that my work is comparable but...) I used to setup at a local restaurant that had the redneck boat crowd zoom through when they stopped off on their way to the ruins tours... fuck, them people are tighter than a camel's arse in a sand storm.
I did it four weeks running, tried a variety of different items each week to see what was popular. In the end I filled the table with kiln-flattened Belikin bottles and had redder-than redneck say 'Why would I pay $5 for a flattened bottle?' heh heh... can't educate pork.

I would say inline bubblers, shiny pendants/jewelry, and odd ass looking pipes are my best sellers. everyone here seems to like the outlandish looking shit. lol more fun for me. :chilling:

Yeah...since the economy went up in smoke, I was selling my pendants for $28.00, include a leather cord, then I used a 10mm rod as opposed to a 12.9, and have 2 prices, hell it takes me 5-6 minutes for a nice pendant. still good money, but you have to go with the flow, I sold pendants I would not have otherwise, so factor that in, Im not proud I had to do this, but the people are, and they walk away getting a good deal. Its still $189-200 an hour so keep them tourist happy, thanks Swampy.

Damn Steve, Imma have to squeeze in on the Dells. That place is gold man, last month was the first time I'd been up there aside from just driving thru since I was a Kid. THe damn place exploded, fucking gold mine. Too bad the two headshops I walked into on the strip were selling nothing but imports. Well, them and about everyone else aside from, maybe, the fudge shops. I did notice an empty store front or two, right off the main drag...

The headshops thing selling nothing but imports thing surprised you?
I had the same thing with the Dells, hadn't been there since I was like 8, and finally went back about 5 years ago. The Dells makes me sad. It's such an absolutely beautiful place, but it's like the pretty, nice girl you used to be friends with in high school that you just walked into a dirty bar and you saw slathered in makeup, chain smoking Pall Malls and glued to the video poker. Deep down she's still probably the same nice person that you knew, but she's changed, and the world is lesser for that change.
We end up going there about once a year for the harvest fest where they do the beer tasting from WI breweries. I've actually ended up in your shop a few times Steve, but you're working, and I'm too buzzed up and am worried about bothering you and making an ass of myself, so I never introduce myself. One of these times I'm gonna get up the courage (and not have picked up the liquid courage yet) and actually say hi.

Don't worry about that, I talk all the time while I'm working in front of people, and don't let my work intimidate you, I've been at it since 1975, thats the difference I tell other blowers that stop by that never see the detail I do, its all in the years. The downtown has went to shit, thats why I went to the resort, they stay, play, eat and never have to leave to go downtown. So many empty stores, you don't want to be there. I fixed 3 pieces from that import place a few years ago, was surprised at the high mark-up for a simple spoon. I told him that was it, not going to fix anything again, just the one favor just to be nice, Beleive there are 2 shops selling all that crap.
steve
went to san fran to see only a few head pieces.......mostly imports there as well! SAD!

I still like the Dells, I can dig the buzz atmosphere, bummin around the shops, Ripley's is always cool. We stayed at Hotel Rome in Mt. Olympus, it was cool, in a cheap vegas sorta way (wouldn't stay there again). Cant say I was thrilled by the park overall, but the Duck rides still are fun and just seeing the sights. I dunno, its definitely not the same, but at least there's some out of the way thing to do in Wisco. Its just so damn expensive, thats the bummer.
My ideal vacation is hiking the Colorado Rockies backcountry for a summer roughing it as rough as possible. Fuckin Survivorman style. I love the whole concept of living off the land. Nothing says comfort to me more than roasting cat tail roots over a campfire, a little whiskey and maybe some good company. I could honestly live that way, but I don't think Uncle Sam would leave me be out there. Prolly wanna find me and collect my fine for not buying gov't health insurance. I wonder if I could trade them for bear furs and buckskins?
