haven't posted for a bit, I've had an exhibition to help organise and was flat out making work for it. We have this exhibition every year in the city center and do demos for the public for 4 days. It's a lot of fun and pretty much one of the only times we all get together. Australia is so big and all the flameworkers are scattered all over the place, so it's fantastic to be able to share stuff when we get together.
There's a shot of some of my work below, a series of vessels titled Queen of Borneo, a spin-off from my African King series from last year and referencing our Borneo trip from earlier this year, orchids, pitcher plants, bright red dragon flies and clouded leopards. They're over a foot and a half tall, with the tallest being about 2 foot.
I didn't put the kimon marbles in the expo though, they take a bit of time to make and once they hit the gallery they end up being much more expensive than directly from me... The blue sunburst behind the first oni is actually one of my eyeballs complete with vertical pupil ... you can see it better when turning the marble a bit, but I didn't take a shot to show it, so you'[ll have to imagine it :P

You know, I look in awe of marbles all the time. The work that everyone does here on the is just wow. I like the face and back drop more, but I'm also enjoying the other one that has textures.

Looking mighty nice Chris! :kickflip:
Very cool Oni marbles. That looks like a hell of a lot on work in it, but I like them. Especially the one with all of the symbols carved in it.

thank you, marbles are still something I do in-between stuff or when I crack it at the boring repetitive prodo crap we do for $$$ and I need some enjoyment out of my glass.
Try cutting 10000 x 9mm diameter by 35mm long tube and flamepolishing them and see if you don't need some fun ... not to mention warding off disgruntlement when realising that you're actually seriously fucking up your hands by doing this but need the money bad enough to know that you have to do it (every month ... and on top of that + 12000 of the same at 50mm long ... gah, it depresses me just thinking about it and my thumbs hurt) ... *grumble*
Anyway, that's where my mibs come in *joy*joy* I escape for an hour or two and have a bit of fun ... it's nice to have the good reactions, too, so ...
Thanks for the comments!!!
here's another couple of marbles dredged up fresh from the bowels of the Nostromo (I have a feeling I know someone who's gonna monkey-grip himself over these ... with extra cowbell :D ).
1. facehugger skeltek inside and facehugger in relief outside
2. and I took a couple of shots of the front of the second marble with and without flash to show what it looks like without having light bouncing straight back out.
and dewalt, the exhibition is in Federation Square, Melbourne, Kirra Gallery in the Atrium and will be up for about another 3 weeks. If you're down this way, check it out.

Aussie, you should be VERY proud, those marbles are fracking sweet!!! I have to show those to my son, he loves alien (and predator too). He's even got the video games and the face hugger replica. Thanks for making my day!!!!

thanks, I'm getting a whole lot of interest in these and they go as soon as I make them ... maybe I should become a marble artist! .... neeeeh, I couldn't imagine jamming out scores of mibs ... sounds too much like a real job :D not to mention it'd probably wreck all that joy and relaxation for me in the long run.
I've been wanting to talk to you about some wood, Jay, so I'll send you a note in the near future, hint, hint ...
here's another couple ... (the red has planets and stars in the back of the marble)
