Okay, so nothing beats a Manhattan or a real Martini, right? (The 'real' means that if you think 'glancing in the direction of France' is a substitute for vermouth, you own a parking space in Hell).
Since I'm too lame to be a glass blower these days, I want some kick ass martini glasses. Help me out here.

Those are beautiful, Cravyn. If you don't mind, do you just blow them out like a red wine glass, open and flare? Or something else?

Skipping Vermouth or adding the words "Apple" or anything foofy simply negates the Martini.
And just call it a Martini, three extra letters won't kill you.

Hell yeah, the sunburst and the swirl are really nice.
So really, we have 9,000,000 ways to smoke and one person making martini glasses? Maybe the art of cocktails is truly dying...

See, this 'dump out the vermouth' idea... is there any other liquor which receives this treatment?
Well, you DID ask very nicely, zSeth, I must admit. I'm in the Cities now and then to escape the Nordic Purgatory, I'll drive down there sometime! I'll bring my triple chamber percolating dichroic martini vaporizer with the graal marbles, or hell, we'll just make one.

Now we're talking, but the dichro's all you. .. and the graal =)
so.. what IS a good vermouth? my dad visits, always buys martini and rossi extra dry.. and leaves it with me.
*takes a sip* it's not as bad as i thought it would be, kinda cidery white wine, with some herbal shizz.. never thought of having a martini made of just vermouth.. seems kinda weak compared the vodka version =)
mmm..nordic purgatory

Don't drink martinis, but I'd down a crown royal with a bit of butterscotch in one of those glasses..

..... the vodka martini was a marketing gig with bond out.
Sure as shit aint no marketing 'gig' vodka martinis have been drunk in fashionable clubs in london since the 20's and prolly before that in paris, cannes, monacco etc
Martinis made proper ARE made with vodka.

you're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts
that's a "Vodka Martini"
The origins of the martini are cloudy, but the oldest reference I could find had vodka not gin as the liquor in a martini. Not that it matters, as I don't drink.
I have to say the martini glasses linked were quite nice. I especially liked the sunburst set.

Ha! Vodka martinis are called vodka martinis because they're NOT NORMAL MARTINIS. Might as well start contacting Hell Parking Services immediately to make sure you have a spot close to the dispensary.
Honorable Dr. Selchow, I'll see you one Crown and raise you a Glenlivet.
Senor Zlao,it sounds like your esteemed Father has the right idea. Rossi is good stuff. My brief but intensive investigation into this issue has taught me that Noilly and Prat is the true choice of the hip 2010th decade man.

A Martini made JUST of vermouth is as much insanity as a 'martini' that is made with no vermouth. I have my 1949 Esquire Handbook for Hosts, hopefully that makes me cools as FUCK AND A HALF. It describes martinis as consisting of no less than 5 parts gin : 1 part dry (French) vermouth. This concept of treating vermouth as if it is battery acid is not normal, I mean, it's just funky wine with weird herbs in it.

Yeah, specifically bourbon and sweet (Italian) vermouth, not dry (french) vermouth like most martinis. If you make it with Scotch, that's a Rob Roy.
