Zip lock baggie?

Maybe some heat shrink wrap? That would seal in the funk and make it look new-ish.

buy a new one,, best advice,, if your taking your torch you 'can' purge the smell from it by running oxy through it until it doesnt smell. most airlines get funny about smelling propane from carry ons.

is sending it in the mail an option? Just to avoid any hassel. when I fly I carry my clothes with me and dont check anything and send the rest of my gear in the mail. Delta lost my luggage once that was fun.

i know airlines wouldnt let me bring a camp stove on board. even without a thing of gas they said wont allow anything that has had gas run though it on the plane. I would mail your regs. its probably gonna be the least amount of hassle. like jeff3355 said airlines loose stuff like crazy and fed/ex delivers by 10am.

I fly with my torch often. I put the torch and the hoses and anything else that might smell all in one bag together, packed well, and I check it. I have not had any issues. When I was feeling concerned about it, I considered printing up an info heet on my torch, complete with pictures, and doing the same for the event I was heading to, and putting the papers inside the checked bag on top of the torch and such. That way if they do smell something and search the bag, they don;t have to try to figure out what it is. All the info they need is right there and they can easily confirm it on the internet.

But as I said, I never have an issue with checking it.

I travel with torch and hoses once a month. I blow out all the lines and then pack it into a checked bag. I use a special storage box designed to fit my torch that and has easy access. They are going to open and look through everything and it is better to make it easy on them as they will not spend the time to repack well. The only time I ever had a problem was when I packed an unmarked bottle of bead release. They called me to the gate counter and informed me it had been confiscated. Also note that most airlines will not insure tools so if they lose your bag you are out of luck.

Ditto what Joann and Trey said. I put paperwork describing what the torch is and the event. Also pack it well, they WILL go through it. Theyt broke my wifes torch and she didn't even know it until she went to fire it up at a Flameoff.

Good Luck!

check it, no carry on.

Do NOT blow out the reg with oxygen... waste of oxygen if nothing else. Use compressed air or nitrogen.

Double bag it in zip locks to keep smell in and dust out.

or mail it UPS or Fed Ex.

only had to do it once, but i flew with my delta elite in my lap roundtrip. there was no way in hell i was gonna check it after watching the baggage handlers on previous trips, no matter how good it was wrapped. tsa has damaged my belongings too many times, plus the no insurance just scares me.
when i went through security they scanned it, stopped for a second and asked what it was, and i said "its a glass tool for heating and manipulating glass"...(you have to admit when you take a gtt off the base it kinda looks like a hair dryer.) then they sent it through, didn't even open the bag. on the way back home, right through the x-ray, no questions asked whatsoever. kept the base tightly wrapped in my checked bag that time and of course tsa took it out, unwrapped it, loosley replaced it, and somehow led to a bent pinion knob.
