The energy of the functional glass art scene was on point last week with only positive vibes. The Glassroots Art Show is proud to be able to harness such energy from such a wide array of people from all walks of life. All had different motivations for coming to Madison Wisconsin in November whether it was collecting, competing, buying for their shop, making new accounts, or just watching it all go down. I think we all helped each other achieve the goal of supporting art one way or another.
My Thanks start with the vendors who believed in the show before there was a show to believe in last year and re signed up again this year. Without you the finances are not there to keep the ball rolling. All of the vendors in general who took a chance on a show that until this year was not established. Thanks for believing in the show.
To all of the flame-off artists who agreed to come to Madison and work with an unknown partner: Thank you for setting the stage for an unbelievable event and creating amazing pieces in an unfamiliar environment with a partner that you may never had worked with prior to the event.
Thank you to Will Menzies and all he does for the community. This man walked me through all of the steps to get me to the point of a functional flame-off having never met me. I cannot say enough about him and his family of support.
Mr. Menzies also pointed me in the direction of Craig Lewis and Jeff Zorn. These two guys are the dream team of making a convention center style flame-off work. They showed up the day before the start of the competition and had everyone up and running on time at 10am. Had I not been blessed with these two gentlemen it could have been a disaster. Terry King, Brad Dins, Drew and Lodi thank you as well for volunteering your time and allowing this thing to go off without a problem.
Thank you Jason Harris for the vocals and knowledge on the microphone. I was unsure what to expect with live interviews happening while people were flame working but it was smooth and funny.
To the list of sponsors that put forth so much money, product, trust and belief in a new show THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! There are a bunch to name and I have mentioned them in other spaces and will not take up to much more here.
The show would also like to thank The Monona Terrace and the City of Madison for keeping an open mind and being such gracious hosts to an event of this kind.
My last thank yous go to my parents and especially my Father for helping me do all of the prep of the flame-off. To my Lady and best friend Mary and my two girls, thanks for keeping the balance at home.
On a side note, there was some shennanigans at the end of the show and I would like to clear something up. Damion with KD Glass and Girly Glass were nothing but good to the show. Girly Glass donated to the fundraiser and Damion has been in the industry for 10 plus years. NEITHER OF THEM HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH STUFF MISSING. I APOLOGIZE TO THE BOTH OF THEM FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING ON BEHALF OF THE MONONA TERRACE AND THE GLASSROOTS ART SHOW. If there is any info on who was driving a white Chevy cargo van and was one of the last to load please let someone with the show know.
Look for the Glassroots Art Show the first week of November 2011.
