It won't do anything for heat blockage, but a dollar bill works great for wiping off kiln dust when a piece is hot. I think it was Alien who I first heard about this from, so hopefully he'll chime in.

FWIW, I've tried using a rolled up $1, $5 and $20 bills, and generally speaking, the $20 rolled bills work better (1 pass compared to 3-4 passes with a lower denomination bill)...
kevlar glove, welding glove or just go hardcore and do it with your hand

Kevlar glove is what I have, but watch out for the elastic part of the wrist band,
once you melt that on there, nothing will wipe it off.

100 % cotton if fine. cut up an old white t shirt. just avoid the edges there thread was used because that does melt onto the glass. i usually have paper towel around to dust with too, as used with alccohol to wipe glass clean, but when i run out a just cut another piece off the t shirt.
dust towards ventilation when possible.
News paper or cardboard works fine. Lots of squares of cardboard in your cases of glass

Carhart pants work well and don't burn to easy.

Razor blade and a straw.
Ever tried a paper towel?........I know they're really expensive and not alot of stores carry them but they are well worth investigating.

I have 2 pairs of shorts that I use only for working. Both are 100% cotton and can be used to wipe dust off. I just spin the piece fast and rub it down the shorts, on my leg very quickly. Spinning fast and wiping quickly are key when doing it with your shorts.
If it's not a straight shot piece, cotton rags work best.
