i can think of lots of cases where it's perfectly legit to bring up old posts or threads. you can reference info that's already been dropped somewhere else or you can call somebody on their bullsit when it's appropriate. it's easy enough to check if it's out of context, your old posts are open to everybody.

oh yeah, adding an edit doesn't bump a thread either. only a new post can do that.
