I use aquarium sealant at the base of mine.

This is one that I made:

I used distilled water, glycerine and glitter. This one in particular has a little glow powder mixed in for an extra kick.

The only weird thing is I'm noticing some sort of white clumping starting to form in the past few days. Maybe I'll see if they glow; if they do it's glow powder. If not it might be some funky growth or a little of the sealant flaked off.

You want to be extra careful to make sure the lip on the bubble is clean (flat) and that your maria's not to far off either, otherwise sealing them is a pain in the tuckus.

I put egg shell in the one Uriel got (glad you like it :) ) but that didn't float that well, even with the glycerine.

I saw a neat article about creating snow from some chemical you can dissolve in the water and then grow like rock candy, but it really seemed like more than I wanted to deal with.

edit...it is glow powder and glitter...I wonder if I can kick a static charge into it to break it up, probably not thanks to the glass.
