Hey y'all, i'm looking to build a kiln - I've got everything but the brick!

I'm in the Denver area, and since shipping is a real nightmare for these things I'm trying to find a local source of insulating fire brick. Places I've found:

United Western
303-388-1224
4.60 or so per brick, must buy in cases of 12

Mile-Hi Ceramics
303-825-4570
5.65 per brick, can buy individually

Comparing these prices to others I've seen here is nearly outrageous... I'm trying not to break the bank by making the kiln from scratch in the first place. Anyone know of anywhere else around here to purchase some bricks? They're $3.50 in Portland, but that's a bit of a drive ;)

yea i pay $3.75 at the local pottery joint. I can buy 1 or as many as I want. Its cheaper by the case.

look for bricks suppliers, pottery supply houses, or look for used/broken kilns in the paper. Its a lot nicer to work with brand new bricks cuz they are square and everything, but frankensteining a kiln to use its parts is also good cuz the bricks are already grooved, fully dried out, and CHEAP

I got a box of them for setting large scultures and things to heavy to hold to be worked on out of the kiln .They are for fireplaces and i got them at Ace hardware .I do not remember what temp they are rated to but i preheat them with a hand torh before placing whatever is being worked on them .I have never cracked or broke them.
