Yo! I'm clueless in Seattle...can ya please help a wench out?

Looked on Craig's list last night and found this:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/tls/2154386980.html

and this:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/tls/2145661553.html

and this:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/tls/2155721890.html

Do ANY of these look like something I wanna mess with, or should I just bite the bullet and buy brand new from the welding supply place?

Thanks a ton for any input you can share!

you can buy from the gas company, i think i paid 200 for a 300 tank, that was many years ago.... but whatever you can find does not matter what the condition really is,cause its an exchange... the last CL ad you have is ok, see if you can make an offer for the 1 tank.

NEVER BUY NEW!... you will never see the tank again

I've bought a few tanks off craigslist and had no problems. I think you are supposed to have paperwork of ownership but the praxair i go to always takes them and i've had some really bad looking ones.

on the bottle neck if it stamped anything (like ...property of airco)but U.S.military(for some reason my local airgas says as long as it says U.S.military its just like an owner bottle) dont buy it those are rental bottles they usually paint the rental bottles red and owner bottles are purple so if theres nothing stamped on neck that is the same as a brand new bottle, cause when you bring it back they dont fill it for you they give you a different one

the first ad looks good. if it came from an oxy/ acetylene setup then your good to go. if the tank was used to hold co2/argon then its probably not going to work. i believe the welding people told me that c02 leaves residue in the tank.

i learned that when asking about converting a liquid co2 tank i wanted to buy.

sometimes welding supply places are willing to take trades on bottles. like trade us your co2/argon bottle for an oxy cylinder. not all places will do this, but some.

i'd say go check out the first ad you posted. if it looks good buy it. then sell the cart and anything else you don't need , and you should end up with what the tank you need for $150 or so, which is a good price.

co2/ argon bottles are fine, but liquid co2 cylinders are strictlty for low pressure gasses....this is an area i've been through with a fine tooth comb....I don't like renting shit...

if your place is anything like mine they wont care what kind of bottle u give em if its a argon k tank theyll still give ya a oxy k tank......they did for me.....as long as its an owner bottle

don't pay more that 100 bucks for a used tank. New they cost $200. if i were looking at buying a tank or two my price point would be the $100. or id source the cash for new ones.

i would low ball the first listing. cause im cheep and they admitted not knowing what they had. i think i saw regulators and a torch there, u could probably part it out sell everything and have a free o2 bottle..

I've bought 2 tanks off CL. They hadn't been pressure tested in over 10 years so the gas company charged me $45 each for rebuilding/testing and gave me swaps that day. If they had been stamped in the last 10 years they would have just swapped them out.

CL is good for stuff like that.

Good luck.

Somebody told me today that if the tanks had #'s 3aa dot 2015 it could not be used as trade ins. said you would have to wait while they send it out(2 weeks). I guess those are low pressure and they will straight trade high pressure tanks only? I think the number was 3aa dot 2650?
Anybody heard the same?
Thanks

If you tell them you've just bought it, they'll give you the BS that they need to test it. If you go in like you've owned the damn thing for years they won't blink twice and just exchange it out. There aren't any serial numbers on 'em, or even if there were they wouldn't track from company to company. In the future, just play it cool :chilling:

Fuck Everett's Praxair. After a price increase of 48% with in a yr's time I said WTF and called the regional sales manager who told me to go elsewhere if I wanted a better price. I called around and found the same price I had over 6 yrs ago at a different shop. They are closer as well.

if you set your account up in bellingham i don't think the other branches can mess with your prices. thats what i was told by praxair down here atleast. they wanted to charge me alot more.

I actually went to a pullminary health store and they sold me k tanks for 30 bux a piece and they r only charging me 10 bux when i have them filled, pretty unbelievable but the gave me a regulator and hose as well..... you just have to know how to spit game when you go into these places. but find one and try it out i probably get the best deal that i have heard of, but most go the welding route.
