:D I know i've been lurking on this site for a long long time, studying equipment, techniques, and some of the less glass related topics on the forum, but the time has finally come!!! I just got my taxes today and thanks to my beautiful baby girl (she's 2) i get a wonderful tax return to spend on all the beloved equipment i need to finally begin my new career along with repairs to my house which was paid off as of November 1st! Woot!

The only thing holding me up at this point will be the studio space. I'm building a concrete block building in the woods above my house to use as my space. (it's so nice and secluded up there and i'll be riding my 4 wheeler to "work" everyday) Although i have to wait until the weather clears up abit because it seems to be very very difficult to dig into a hill side in -15 to -25 degree weather. the dirt just won't cooperate....neither will pennsylvania's weather :depressed

So from what i hear, February is supposed to be beautiful so if that's the case i'll be digging, building and burning in no time!!!

Thanks for this wonderful forum! All the questions i've had were able to be answered with the search button, and if i had one i couldn't find, there was never a shortage of people willing to provide solutions/answers. For this i thank you, and now i get to put all of that found knowledge to work.

I'll be posting a shop building progression thread as soon as digging begins!

Thanks again,

TOOO TOOO EXCITED,
RastaSkott

well the main problem was fundage for a very long time. I ended up buying a house very cheap ($5000 with a half acre of land) but it required alot of fixing up. Maybe i'll post some before and after pics of the house. i did all the remodeling myself (and with some help from friends). Then my girlfriend and i had a baby (seems to cost money too lol) so that held it up a bit. Then i was ready to buy everything i needed this past summer but the day before the title was signed for my house we had a fire. Our 2 year old Whirlpool fridge caught on fire and burned out the addition i had built onto our house the previous year which housed not only the fridge but also my entire music studio. That included my drumset (which i refinished 1 year ago and i'm currently refinishing what was salvageable once again) all of my instruments from flutes and clarinets to trumpets and guitars, congas and djembes and all of my recording equipment. I've put 20 years into playing drums and many other instruments so that was a very hard hit for me.

But thankfully my girlfriend and our daughter got out just fine and our dog, cat, and bearded dragon all survived but all 3 recieved oxygen from the firemen. That was something to see.

But as i said the time is here and the future is now. And despite all the hardships i've never wavered on my dream to be a glass fiend! Can't wait!!!!

p.s. Don't buy whirlpool or maytag (they're both made by whirlpool)! They have sooooo many recalls on soooo many products. I've found that i wasn't the only one with the burning fridge problem (actually thousands of accounts in the U.S.)

Shaking with anticipation,

Welcome man. Really sorry to hear about the house fire, glad everyones okay and you're back on track now. Don't feel bad about lurking for a while. I wanted to be a glassblower from about 30 seconds after I bought my first glass piece when I was 17. I didn't actually get behind a torch until a few weeks after I turned 27.

also, i'd hate to get this post moved to the glassifides but if anyone has a gtt cheetah or knows where to get one in stock that would help to get this train on the tracks. also i have a national 8m with no tips and a small kiln similar to the 84bd i'm trying to trade for hand tools, regs, flashbacks, didys, etc. so if anyone can help out it'd be greatly appreciated!!!

thanks again for all the help along the way,

welcome! You are welcome to take a trip to my house some time. I could help you get started if rock ville is not to far away-have to map quest.

I will be selling my cheata when i find a phantom or mirage, and i live near a glass supplier with whom I have a very good relationship with, could help you get set up.

got a deal with my fuel supplier for regs at about 70 buck for o2 and propane (both in a set box!) you can poay that just for one!

^ there's one of the reasons I like my workshop too,, funny how a semi closed door is like some kinda women shield... although my 3yr old daughter always wants to come watch me working.
