View Full Version : kairos art glass
Since I am new to the forum I would like to show off some of my work. I dont have many other glass artist to critique my work so this is a good chance for me. I usually take a short breaks when i get burnt out (usually due to frustration or artistic block) i didnt light my torch all summer. When I started back up in fall I hit a new level and I melted into a deeper understanding of lady boro. I mostly make pipes because its a gauranteed sell, (gotta pay bills) but I really enjoy sculpture. I have a ton of pics so I will try not to bombard yall with too many.
The large blue and black piece was the biggest shit I have made, custom for a friend. After 8 hours It broke.... ouch. So I put it back in the kiln and went to sleep. Next day I pulled it out, tore of the parts and reassembled it into the other one. Its way more functional, I dont really know how to work glass on glass well, and that shit got huge on me quick.

Hey, do you mind if I ask where you get the (what looks like) silicone gasket for your wine stoppers?
abr imigary, 2bux a pop. fits right over 1/2 inch stock, no secret but thank for asking. It would be nice to find them cheaper but works for now.

i like the gun how does it function is there water in it? or is it a dry piece
looks cool
:D
steak351, yes its ment to be a water piece. The scope on top is the bowl, pointing forward. The barrel is the mouthpiece, The carb is visable.... you hold it upright and the water perks.

Tha masta blasta raygun, kinda got carried away with this one. sloppy in some areas but pretty damn big for me so far, It almost didnt fit in my kiln.
Next is a hammer I made with jet black tube pull, and csome canary/lava r balls. I had fun with this.

Lovin that gun! Cool work man.
your rayguns inspired me to try a one out..I know what you mean by getting to big tho. Its easy to just add stuff on em. The one in my kiln right now dosent even fit all the way. It's like a Ray Rifle.
great work kairos!

Thanks simeon, I wasnt sure what that tech was called. I love making them, and i am working on a nice piece that is going to be all marias like a bamboo poll or somthing... multiple sections, got the idea from snics work, thanks for looking
Just got a new camera, and a light box, hope these pics are a lil better.
My first electroformed peice, looks more like shit encrusted rust ass that chips off than it does plated copper, oh well, learning curve.

Awesome work. Definitely heady.
This is my very first tube. Finally able to melt some major glass now that I have my new Pm2d. Made the stem first with 32mm cobalt, benched cooled it and stuck on a 6 inch slug of 50mm cobalt and put of my kevlar sleevs lol!
Edit: BTW i didnt have a transition so i just added an 8mm drop stem in the bowl
Some more stuff I have been working on. :D

Looks great man! Really digging your work
A bunch of prodo here. Working hard a perfecting this design. making these things perfect is a bitch, but i think i might be getting somewhere now that I have made about 150 of them.
I decided to work on something larger after all that prodo. My inspiration for this piece was Billygoat all the way. After seeing his GP gallery I had to try this out.
Eh dont really know where im going with this..... its really complicated and I can finally say that gtt single port would hace really helped with this. Its not done I at least need to pop the carb and i thought about slapping a few more attachments on the open spots.
This one kinda grew on me.

Look Awesome Man!... yes those Marias are spot on....and I too love that piece it reminds me of a coral reef...really Ku!....=)
Thanks for the kind words yall.
Here is an oil lamp I made for mothers day.
Better pics of my coral reefer piece.
And a bugling elk my cousin asked me to make for him. I tried making a decanter on my lathe and seriously fked it up... oh well more practice i guess.
I have a recurring problem of things getting way bigger than I can handle....
Enjoy
Edit: oh yah I still need to remove the punty mark from the elk ;) to exited about this wanted to get up some pics!!
I LOVE sculptures, very impressive :D

Cole that's a sweet Elk Sculpture, killin it!. Colors look great..yeaham really like that coral piece..
Thanks guys, I have had my nose to the flame since november, I feel my skills improving and its very rewarding.
This piece started by practicing bending horns with tablescraps (ends of tube pulls) And some 12mm china black. Started playin around and before I knew it I had a horny table scrap monster. Color scheam looks like crap, but im happy wid da shaping.
Edit: forgot to mention this is all hollow work, only one small horn is solid

Nice work sir! Horny scrap monster sounds dangerous... like it would rape you and the eat your leftovers or something :)
Some of my best line tube so far. Spent an afternoon pulling this rainbow and white candy sticks. I just want to eat it. Anyway working on a wedding gift set. Sherlock is finished, I have some parts made but no idea what to do yet. The tubing is quite nice, I just wish my line work/wigwags where better/cleaner. I am having problems with my color washing out when i join them and my wags are way too dramatic..... maby im twisting too far, and im thinking my balls arnt big enuf????

Nice tubing! What color.do you used for you.all white tubing
I think it is ns egiptian white sand, i like it, first time I have used it. just a tiny bit off white.
for the rainbow I used, what i had
cherry red
lava
rasta gold crayon
cannary
parrot/camo (didnt use this in the second rain pull bc even tho i put three layers it still washed)
evergreen
periwinkle
hyacinth
berry gumbolt

sweet color pulls yummy for sure :)
i was told to wag more gently for better results a couple times. as for joins and washing out, it may help to try and ream your holes before joining them in a manner where you sort of push the inside up and try and keep the clear from coming up to the top of hole.... i am having a really hard time explaining it, but someone else did a great job one time, i think it was blue lily, and the thread was on joining sections.
your balls arent big enough, hahaha, good one.
oh if you mean reballs, i am not sure exactly. usually it takes the right size one for whatever you need it for...?

Looks Awesome...I'm breaking out the color wheel myself!
Ok here is the complete set. Not so happy with the large jar, technical issues... i really need to learn r_ball assembly. Im super happy with the spoon and sherlock tho. I should add this is a wedding gift for our friends in California.
This is a super clean tube made by Coyle condenser when he was up showing me a thing or two about the lathe. I had my friend paint this, finally got it back. looks so good I want to set my own airbrush hood. Thanks

on the wags , might wanna stretch tube out thinner around 10mm (or little less) for the windows, and areas that you want tighter wags keep the wags sm as possible and push together slightly as you are wigging to make them tighter, it doesn't take much, use the least heat as possible, mabe 3 sec heat, twist 3 sec heat, twist exct. tube looks great, I had some white sand bubble right thru a stick stack sleeve ( only on one side tho) I was pissed.
