Hey folks, looks like a lot of the newer members (and plenty of old lurkers) don't have their location in the forum header....

It really helps us form community and find opportunities when we know more-or-less where each other are on this planet.

Please take a moment to update the location field in your user profile. Just a city/state, we don't need your home address.

Click the User CP link at the top of every page:
http://www.greymatter.org/stuff/user_cp.jpg

The click the "Edit Profile" link on the left menu of that page:
http://www.greymatter.org/stuff/settings.jpg

Then scroll down till you see the "Location" entry:
http://www.greymatter.org/stuff/location.jpg

Scroll down and click the SAVE CHANGES button (no pic) and you're done.

Thanks!

Judging from the scratches and bite marks on the dog, I don't think it was consensual.

No problem man.

But to get back to the main focus of the thread (which is not actually the violation of my parents dog), Doug makes a good point. No ones asking for a map to anyone's house, but part of the point of this site is about building community, so if people take the time to put their city and state in their location, it helps us find each other and get together to share techniques, ideas and perspectives.

^^^^^True, well said, and agreed!......

It helps in many ways when someone post you can get perspective, plus if they are selling in glassified then you have and idea of shipping cost or if you need to just ride. The same with artist you want to meet, then you find there are several within acouple hours it less. I know there are several that I have hit up already !!. Simply cause they are within a reasonable driving distance......

But like you said it really helps bring community together , and grey what a wonderful tut!....

That is all well and good unless your state has criminalized the work you do.... We don't all live in free states... I sure as hell don't... It only takes one troll to fuck up your whole world, get all your shit confiscated and land your ass in jail...

I enjoy my anonimity round here.

No expectations , no connections to me or how I make my living .( stupid remarks, foot in mouth ect. ) Even if the regulars know exactly who I am and where I am. No need to get robbed cuz some one I don't know from a hole in the wall , puts it all together.

No need for some one to bad mouth me / my product , because they don't agree with my opinion here.

If I wanted that , I would use my real name.

On another note ..... Have you seen the " shop surf " group on f.b. good place to start to figure out who is local. Again no need to post up where exactly, just a state perhaps . Thats what a p.m. is for .

Yes ,I guess I will put my state in my profile.

Did the o.p. ever figure out who robbed them?

BORO

No disrespect intended .

Let's just that as a start for my response as well. It pretty much sounds like you are saying you want to be a jerk and not be held accountable. Good to remember about you, I reckon.

Furthermore, where are you getting that the OP was robbed, because I don't see that. I also fail to see how posting your state could get you robbed, unless someone in particular is really hunting you down, and really wants your stuff.

BORO
01-07-2014, 11:39 PM
Yes , people do " hunt you down" , or may just find you a easy target. Nice shop , nice equipment , glass , local . Why make it easy when you have things like p.m's and people connection.

If you need help , just ask . I have given out free lessons to people I only know from here . So please pass judgement on me , yes I must be a bastard.

I come here to " get away" from my day to day work . I am here to be apart of something I have a love for .

I rock out some serious anxiety . I erase more than half my posts , they never see the light of day.

Actions Un accounted for ? Your going to " remember " to judge me ? Based solely on ones in-ability to communicate clearly ?

I will be the first to tell you we all say some things that come across wrong/misunderstood . That is what my previous post was about. If Some one as regular as you.... think I come off as a jerk , I seriously need to reconsider my time spent here.

This is THE sight for lamp workers . It is the " World Wide Web" and you have good/bad people every where . For every blower I have met , I meet 10 people who " know they want to blow glass for a living" but have no $$$ to invest , no matter how bad they want to get started .

Most of them end up right here.

"People do some strange things , but you gotta do what you gotta do ".

I did post my state. That is a reasonable request.

I was only stating my opinion . I did/ do not try to sugar coat , or try to "please" any one .

Did I re -read my post , become anxious , and feel clarity was needed ? No harm intended ? No name calling? Yes.

Yes the o.p. has posted video of people robbing "a" shop . Did it get posted here ? Not that I know of. Did he post video links to you tube , and had the " robbery" on his you tube as well ? Yes .

Just one example of how much some one may know about you , even if you did not spell it out for them.

I wasn't saying you were a jerk, or that I had ever formed that opinion. I said it sounded like you wanted to be a jerk and have no one hold the real you accountable, which didn't seem very cool to me. I have re-read it, and can hear it a bit differently. I have fairly strong feelings about they way people behave behind internet anonymity versus those who use their real name. When you stand firmly behind that anonymity, I have a hard time not automatically tossing you in the box with Billy Bob McIdobiggerdabsthanyou. However, it's important to mention that I also understand you don't want Billy to know who you are, because he is a shit talking idiot who might also be violent or have a pension for theft…which is what I heard when I read it this time.

I also totally get the trash talking the business thing. We had two people attempt to do damage to the AAGI because of personal issues, and neither was rational. They could have created real problems for us, based on made up issues.

I changed my name everywhere to my real name, many years ago, after a very insightful conversation with Jason Lee. With the change came a greater responsibility, but it also brought a greater sense of ownership of who I am and what I do. I refuse to be afraid of believing in what I do. About a year after the change I had to defend my job in court, fighting for custody of my daughter, in a very conservative state. My name was now on all of my pipe work, EVERYWHERE! Rather than be afraid, I was empowered by how I had started feeling about my work. My presentation of what I do was so compelling, the judge commented about buying some of my non-pipe work as we were all standing to leave.

With the addition of my involvement in the AAGI, more accountability for who I am here, and everywhere else on line became a series responsibility. Turn outs I like it, and it actually eases a lot of my anxiety. I have massive social anxiety and erased posts are my forte. Being Aymie online really makes it all much easier for me…and I never really liked wearing a name tag that said Butterfly Bob…though JoAnn Fellatio was kinda fun.

No worries, your location isn't required. It's just helpful for some people...but ya we hope not for robbing people. There really are some shitty people in this world, sadly. :(

I will be the first to tell you we all say some things that come across wrong/misunderstood . That is what my previous post was about. If Some one as regular as you.... think I come off as a jerk , I seriously need to reconsider my time spent here.

You didn't and don't come off as a jerk. I can tell by your rep that lots of others feel the same way and enjoy your posts. I understand about your anxiety to post, and want you to know I do the very best I can to set a good example here and help keep things peaceful so that you all feel comfortable posting. I know it's not perfect but I will keep trying to improve it for as long as I'm alive and the captain of this ship. I want you to feel at home here.

A shame about Doug(e)'s shop being robbed, for sure. I don't believe he ever caught the thieves but I could be wrong. Amazing, the levels some people will stoop to. It seems they knew where to find things, too...so they probably knew Doug(e). Makes me wonder if they chill with him still, acting as if nothing ever happened. I'd say that must weigh heavily on their conscience but they must not have one in the first place to be robbing someone they knew of their livelihood. Makes me sick. :depressed

At least he had his ducks in a row with the cameras and insurance. It is a risk to run a public shop of any sort, but luckily most the people in our industry are good people.
