Talk to Jes, he uses it and the cyanite with great success. I've personally not messed with it much, but know he has.

Of course you can pull Moldavite and tektite into stringers and use it. It's ultra stiff. But you can do it

I made and inside out spoon with Moldavite and tektite stringers maybe 8 years ago. It took forever (again, ultra stiff glass). All is possible with patience and some know how

fuseing right to a pipe or pendant is super dope- you can go to crystal shops to sell pendants- people really like them...and also tube encase- or jus drop it into tube and melt down to solid marb. and pop it onto somthing- i made a wand for someone once- it had moldavite and opals- ohhhhh powerful stuff....$$ cha-ching...have fun with it...
never heard of pulling stringers- that sounds savage.
also there is a show called "meteor men"...they go all over the world collecting moldavite- its very valuable stuff...but the chec. stuff seems to be best for glass...its very magnetic!

At Panic Halloween a couple years ago, in New Orleans, there was an entire group of people all dressed in that green man suit. you could see them on the floor, from anywhere in the building. there were atleast 12 of them. classic!

HI, WOW, thanks Dave

I have been using them for more then a few years now and am always learning more. it seems everything everyone says is true.

One thing with moldivite I like to do is keep it intact in its original state. I do this by just melting the part that I am going to attach it and not touch any-other part of it with the flame. then just stick it to whatever you may want to.

I will put so color on the end of a rod then push the moldivite onto color, so the space rock is on the end then carefully build a little cage around it to protect it in their forever, I like to use a sparkly color but any color could suit the purpose.

I can, have and will again, put the moldivites inside of a space marble too but it just looks like green glass in their but is still cool because it has a chunk of something that came down from outerspace crashed into the ground and whatever the both of them are together earth and space meterorite is somehow compatable.

Orange and recently I have found that blue KYANITE (sp) is compatable and looks really really cool inside a marble or universe pendant, and for these I will grab ahold of t he edge and then get the piece really really hit in the area i want to put it and then just stick it in their and squeez the glass around it to get the air spaces out the best I can.

OH also spraying them with some glass cleaner and letting dry before using seems to make less air bubbles! :bouncy:

also I got a pair of tungsun tweezers now so it make heating and pushing objects into the glass and just working anything near the flame or heat source really really really nice.

I am not the best typer but when Dave mentioned my inclusions with them I had to pipe up...

hope this helps please let me know if any questions but its mainly just trial and error anything is possible or seemingly possible...

First of all, Tektite and Moldavite are not the same thing. They are both natural glasses, but tektite can be found almost anywhere, and moldavite is a natural glass that resulted from a meteor that landed in the Moldau River Valley in the Czech Republic, and bonded with the particular minerals in the soil there to form green moldavite. If anyone tries to sell you "moldavite" that isn't Czech, tell them to shove their glass in their *ss. True Moldavite will be completely mined out within 10 years, so I buy 2-3 grams a month as an investment. I call it my "poor mans gold."

Also, the meteorites they are looking for on Meteor Men are Iron Nickel Meteorites. I've spent a lot of time running my metal detector over tektite for hours and on every setting. Never gotten a beep out of it, though it could have a small amount of iron in it. Metal detectors usually try and discriminate out Iron. On the other hand, if you run a detector over an Iron Nickel Meteor, your detector will go off like you've hit gold.

That's called a tektite , most likely from the far east . Black in color right ? moldavite is green , like beer bottle green. (moldavite is also a tektite ) Good to know the black ones will work .

Crazy I just found this old thread. I have a current student who is working with moldavite, and she enlightened me to the fact that pricing is through the roof on this stuff. Anybody sitting on a trove of moldavite might consider holding on just a little longer and then look at reselling. Inner Vision Crystals, a big supplier of true moldavite, is restocking with a 3x price increase this week. Seems the world supply is running low, and anyone treating moldavite as an investment had the right idea.

Sounds like hype.... all my rock shop friends still buy and sell it for 1 or 2 $ a gram. (Usually pre sales before doors open to the public at rock shows) I have seen truck loads in the last 18 months.

the spiritual healing sect got into Moldavite for it's "healing properties", and the price adjusted accordingly. colombianite is the new one, not sure of it's CTE , but it's a little less expensive
