View Full Version : GOG fittings....is this normal?

So the last place I ordered GOG fittings from was Wale. This time I went with ABR.

I made a pretty small order, 60 gog fittings, some scissors, and 2 tubs of frit. Got home today and saw a box about 2 feet long on my front porch and immediately thought "wtf i didnt order anything that long..."

So upon opening the box this is what I found (picture below). Is this normal?

The last fittings I got, im pretty sure were scott or simex or something so these are totally alien to me. Kinda weird too because I just made a thread about where to find double sided fittings, then I get these in the mail and they are all double sided:bangHead:

the ruler in the picture is a foot long so some of these fittings are LONG.

i love that the females come long like that because you can use them as blowtubes for the male fittings, and you can bridge right to it

EU carries lenz ground joints, they are the best if you want quality. Definitly more then a buck though.

one time i got like 6 of those to try and they didnt fit in any standard 14mm. threw them all in the trash. how do yours fit? how do they fit on non chinese joints? i had some males that were incompatible with more expensive 14mm femmes..

it looks like you may be right hash....i havent had time to put any in front of the flame but they dont look like they fit as well as my previous fittings. def think il be ordering better fittings from now on.

edit: after testing a few....these dont seal for shit. Im wondering if I should send them back and get some better ones.

lol. its the chinese joints actually that are the culprit. if you got a shitload like it looks like you got quite a bit i would try and exchange them for good ones. it was odd how they dont fit :(

anyone use the accugrind ones from mountain glasss arts, there like $2.50

i ordered some of the accugrind ones. they are alright, the bottom edge of the fitting is sharp on some of the fittings.and on the top of the fitting where the cleat clear glass starts can be inconsistant sort of folded on one side. so if your pumpin out cheap prodo these would be good but if your stuff is nice then buy schott or something nicer... my two cents

Those china ones are junk. I used to go through a bunch of em' until getting a batch that didn't fit properly. The schott ones are well worth the money, and if you use a lot of them buy a case and you will get a fantastic deal!

Janky.....ive had nothing but good luck with ABR thus far. I order $1 GOG fittings....what ya expect for that price.

I will be using these up for hoods, domes and other things where a small leak wont make a difference and then ill go with scott from now on.

i like some of the length on em, would be useful for some things, wish other brands had more options like that, however i would never sacrifice the quality of schott gongs for chinese.

ALIEN!

be prepared for suckage, those china GOGs are worthless. They dont even make good frit. Be prepared for those not to fit right or be airtight either. Junk.

Funny, I've been practicing some smaller stuff with those 14's and I hadn't even bothered to see if they seal.

That's hilarious. Glad I didn't try to sell any slides with those on them.

Good practice though, they're tricky bitches.

whats wrong with abr?

They have had some problems in the past but most have been rectified.

I would have to disagree. They are still having the same problems. I just ordered and am waiting for it now. I called a Talked to them directly and told them about my concerns with them. When I called to ask about my order all I got was BS and lied to. Its one thing to say your going to do something for a customer but when you drop the ball don't lie to them, period.

By the way there is also another post yesterday where two more people were complaining of these happenings and were told it was because they are under staffed. There is ALWAYS an excuse.

I have never heard of another problem with any other glass company on this board, but with ABR it happens allot.

Definitely my last order with ABR. Sad part was, I even told them I was going to try them again after another bad experience.

someone should do an ABR poll, yea or nay, so we can see just how many people have been satisfied, and how many have not..

they have a use. the joints wobble but are air tight. was gonna throw it in the lathe and put an indicator on it to see what side is oblong, but im sure the tube isnt straight/even to begin with. lol

RedToro, sorry about what happened. But I literally put your order ahead of 150 people to try and get it out as quick as possible as you requested. It missed our late pick up on friday, and went out early yesterday.

Not sure what else I could do. Thanks.

RedToroBoro
02-22-2011, 09:41 AM
I DID NOT request it be sent out quick that came from you I never asked. The order was placed on Thursday it wouldn't of had to make any late pick up. The mailing out later than you said it would be, is not what upset me. I't's the excuses and lies after the fact that is wrong!

daveabr
02-22-2011, 10:20 AM
i didn't make an excuse that I remember. i just simply said, you ordered after our pickup on thursday. so i tried to get it out friday. when you called, I was straight forward in telling you it didn't get out in time. it went out monday morning. sorry again.

i certainly never lied to you.

Ya, and the invoice you said e-mailed is still in my spam folder that that you said was probably there. I don't have a spam filter, it is disabled!! I get all of the e-mails sent. I have the option of putting them is spam if I want to after I read them. I'm not stupid man, it never got sent, like you said. I have never missed an e-mail that somebody has told me they sent. It just only supposedly happens from ABR.

What you don't know is, I spoke to to your customer service line twice, that same day to add something to my order and I WAS NOT put before 150 people!

Ya, I guess all of us that have had problems with ABR is our fault. I don't see others complaining about any other company like this. You even admitted in the Girl Scout cookie thread ABR is having troubles. so you needed to hire more people

HAHA, You were never straight forward with me, about when it shipped! I had to ask multiple questions in PM's to find out.

It would of been way easier to say(in the first PM) that man, it didn't make it out we dropped the ball. Sorry about that, hope we can make it up to you. But no, I have multiple PM's of excuses and lies and now the excuses in these post.

By the way STILL no invoice

Please

wow now. If you want to bitch about ABR or anyone for that matter make your own damn thread. I happen to like ABR and have had really good luck with them thus far. Not something I can say about other glass dist.

That being said. Toro.....piss off

Should the simax gongs be double ended. I ordered some simax gongs from abr and payed the higher price, never ordered them from anywhere else, so I wouldn't know the difference. I personally like abr and never had a problem that could not be fixed. You guys have to remeber they are kind of like a industrail supply and their service is a lot better than most, abr is not amazon or other nation wide retail distribitor.

Dude I answered a question somebody asked in your thread, then answered everything said by Dave. I'm not the only one that said anything negative about ABR.

Your right though I could have started another thread, so sorry to you about that.

I still get glass from EU. They use to be UST but the owners split. Now theres UST and EU. They both carry the best ground joints from germany. As for ABR they are great people. I have delt with most of the glass suppliers and I have found that sometimes getting your stuff is harder than it should be, but ABR is one of the better ones.
