here is a simple cheap way to improve the quality of your photos.

you need
cardboard box
tracing paper
poster board
clear packing tape
lamp (i got mine from the trash)

cut a big hole in three sides of the box tape tracing paper over the holes. done

(not sure where to post this thread :D)

lightbulb sudgestions would be awwwweeeee-som. maybe im just too picky about the color rendering but i haven't found any regular bulbs that get the color very close.

^What kind of camera are you using? You can adjust the white balance on almost any digi cam which will really improve color rendering.

I use tota hot lights (thanks jay) and they rock when the camera is adjusted for tungsten lighting.

^ I second the white balance adjustment, changed everything for my photos.

cannon powershot G2. and ive played with the white balance alittle, but probably not enough, i usually have it on auto which works awesome around 3 pm in full sun.

Yeah, auto is hit or miss depending on the light source.

Some cameras have custom balancing where you take a picture of white (piece of paper) that fills the frame under the lighting you plan on using.

It also really helps if you make sure that there is no other light hitting your work from a different source. I take my pictures at night, with the door closed and the room lights off. It makes a big difference.

Same here. Every black background I have has a little glare to it. I just got some felt and a few other fabrics to try. Hopefully I can get the glass to look nice and crisp against it.

Here is a link (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong2/page17.asp)to a good review of your camera weasel. It has some good info on the white balance.

black construction paper is about the best thing i've come up with for getting away from the glare. i've tried felt, the real stuff is ok, the synthetic stuff has shiny fibers. i like construction paper because its cheep enough to throw away if there gets to be crud on it.
