I just got a new cc and my flame is rather dirty. It's spitting a lot of carbon into my glass. This wasnt a problem with my last cc. What can it be?

is it the first time youve used the torch? is it used? maybe it just needs to be cleaned. theres a good thread about how to clean one at home somewhere....

That's resurfacing the face of a CC. That may be a bit further than you need to go.

It's a brand new cc. Maybe 16 hrs on it so far. It's as clean as can be.

Then try turning your oxy up. 20-25 psi, propane about 5. Or maybe there's just a bunch of crap in there from the manufacture - can you get ahold of a compressor and shoot air thru it?

Or maybe the new ones are off a little and you're screwed. Hope not, just sayin it could be the case...

yea you always gotta vacuum or shoot air thru all brand new stuff.i just bought a 30ft hose the other day that had shit in it,it was brand new.... or maybe you just got the oldest, dirtiest, cheapest propane possible.

Definitely with these guys here - shoot a bunch of high pressure air or oxy through it.... like 75-100psi through both the propane and oxy barbs. It was one part of my cleaning process that really helped with the torch spitting crap onto the glass. Before I did the rebuild process I was starting to get brass shards (not just carbon) flinging out into the flame and sticking to my work O_o

If you have something like an oscillating sander or other vibrating device (:twitch:) touch it intermittently to the torch head to try to knock loose some of the crud while air is flowing through.

Do you have T grade hoses?

Oxy reg is set to 40 propane set to 5. I do have t grade hoses. I'm thinking it might be where I got my propane from, it was the first time I got it filled there (gas station) so I don't know if it was quality propane.

Thanks for the replys! I'll blow out my hoses again and see what happens.

Last time I got gas station propane, it was filled way too much and the first 20 or so minutes, it ran dirty.

Just my experience.

If your hoses are old that could be the problem. If you don't have T grade over time the propane will ware away the inside of the hose causing lots of carbon in your flame.

it's not your propane. tap the torch with a wooden handle while it's raging. carlisles spit crap over everything, you definitely have to clean them often. higher oxy pressures will help too

Smack your torch and tell it that it's a dirty girl. A dirty, dirty girl.
