Those are so nice. You really use TUNGSTEN?? Well, obviously I guess, since you say you do. . . I can't do an f'in thing with tungsten. I still blow all of my inside out beads and leave them hollow and make the holes normally. Someday, maybe, I can do that. UNtil then, I hate tungsten. Hate it.

Thanks Julian!
Here's what I think the secret to piercing larger solid objects with Tungsten is.....
Instead of letting your piece cool down and then re-heating to pierce the hole, use the heat from when you have shaped your piece. The entire piece is hot to the core. Right before it looks like it's starting to cool on the surface and there is still a little glow to the piece, gently twist back and forth through your piece while heating your Tungsten with a bushy flame. 2/3 one way... 1/3 the other way. Goes thru just like buttah!
Anyways....I hope this helps

I know that Andy does his pendant loops with his tungsten and he just makes a divot on each side and does it again until it is deeper and then again until they meet. Then he can twist it all the way through and he knows that it was an even hole on each side.

Im a complete "noob" so if you don't mind, could you tell me how you make an effect like those on your beads? I have a bead on my necklace right now just like that style and i have always wondered.

from what i understand, the simplest way to do inside-out is:
open one end of a bubble, flare it out (you can use a graphite rod in place of jacks, or if you can get things hot enough, centrifugal force) and decorate the inside of it with colored rod/frit/fume/whatever, then heat it back up while holding it at a downward angle.. the flare will re-collect itself into a tube and from there you can blow it back out or let it completely collapse..
i wonder what would happen if you let it collapse onto a graphite rod.... would you be able to pull the rod out once everything firmed up?

I prefer to use solid rod for making beads like that. You put the designs all on the outside (of a large clear rod 18mm+) and then encase in more clear. Make sure to use tons of clear and not melt in the colors so it seems super 'deep'. Then when it has cooled you can take a dremel/drill and drill out the middle to put a hole in.
There are other techniques out ther but this is the one I prefer right now.
BTW: nice looking beads firedance lady :-)
