Alright everyone so need you alls opinons my roomate Gibbie Dowdy is a skilled glass blower and has a goal to sell a single pipe worth a million bucks in his lifetime. He plans to lay diamonds on it which actualy is possible and super fume with gold and platinum. So we got in the conversation and i said anyone who bought it would most likely would not smoke out of it, rather they would wait till the market was peaked and seperate the elements to sell them for max profit. He then proceeded to say that he would refuse to sell them the pipe unless it would be used and enjoyed. Personally i couldn't say no to 1,000,000 i wouldnt care what the hell you did with it. So what is everyones thoughts on the topic could you turn tour down a million if they werent gunna use the pipe?

Interesting thread. I am a goldsmith. I work with diamonds every day. I replace tips at a temperature of 1250 degrees F. At about 1600 degrees they will "frost", developing a frosty white finish. This diamond must be re polished to bring back it's brilliance.

I have made "objects de art" for a long time. Unless pipe-making gets is due respect and glass pipe artists are listed on a national scale, no one is going to spend $1,000,000.00 on a pipe. It must be PROVEN that the piece is collectible by it's signature before any serious collector will invest in it. I don't think that Southebys (? spelling) will accept a pipe for auction.

However, "dealers" with more money than sense may go for it. But then you have the problem of what are you going to do with $1,000,000.00 in $20/50/100 bills. Believe it or not, it is hard to get rid of cash sometimes, without drawing a LOT of attention...Smithy

I tried to encase a little pave chip I got from Rio Grande and it turned into a bubble in the glass as I worked it... so I looked it up. It might take time, I don't really know... all I know is a $10 sack of diamond chips lasted me all of 10 minutes in the flame :P

You can embed CZ into 104 glass, but sticking real diamond into boro was a no-go.

Standard28, the "Eye of the Flame" piece by Ivan And Scott is out by you at Headventure in Aurora I think. Last I knew Timmy owned it, and I have heard prices ranging from $20,000 to $100,000. In the grand scheme of things and considering the history of borosilicate pipemaking it may be priceless.

Yes, I can cast diamonds in place. It takes special investment, kiln timing and temperature and specialized techniques in doing the wax work. BUT...it's still a bitch...Smithy
