the other thread was getting to long.....PLEASE DO NOT POST HERE
the great lakes area summer session (g.l.a.s.s.) will be held july 9th and 10th at my shop outside black creek wisconsin. the great lakes area has a budding glass community and the reason for this event is to bring that community together to learn teach and collaborate with each other. this event will be for beginners to highly skilled and anyone in between. it will give them a chance to work side by side with their peers. we will be making a series of peices representing the 4 seasons. participants will be evenly split into 4 groups/teams based on skill level. each team will be designated a season. teams will have 1 leader or main assembler. we will try to sell the pieces as a set at one of the up coming shows or another buyer might step forward. all proceeds will be donated. 25% to this wonderful place and 75% to a local schools art program. there will be a semi pro photographer taking pics of the event and sounds like 2 video guys also. i will be writing an article that will be proof read by other participants, that will be submitted to one of the glass magazines. we will be cooking out and there will be spots to camp if need be.
i will be covering one liquid tank, propane, electric, kiln space and some raw material. i will be building one or two more bench spots so there will be 8 full size work stations plus one lathe station. may be able to squeeze one or two more torches in here and there. 4 of the stations will be fully equipped. the rest will not. so there will be room for torches hoses and y connects. i will have my blast cabinet up and running and am going to try and get my facet machine back in working order.

we still need a few higher skilled/leaders to step up who are comfortable with large scale assembly. i am fully capable and willing to lead but would rather step aside and let someone else do it as my plate will be full as it is. this is not a competition. this is donating your time and skills for a good cause and you get to have fun in the process. maybe teach and maybe learn something as well.
list of sponsors............still awaiting word from one or two more.
abr.....thanks dave!
weld specialtys....thanks barry!
aim kilns....thanks grady!!
please pm me if you can and want to make it and your skill level or if you wanna sponsor in some way. please do not post here. if you wanna read more or post thoughts do so in the throwdown thread.
thanks

sooo had an idea i thought i would throw out there...perhaps we should makae a frankenpipe...everyone should bring a broken piece or part that has been sitting in there shop or on a bench spot, or in a box...and we will see what we can make out of em...everyone capable should attach or work on a part of the frankenpipe...so we have a piece that was frankencolabed by all who show up...just an idea i think this would be fun

so we have one back out for saturday and possibly one back out for both days. the shittiest part about it is they are both on the same team. so there will be atleast one opening for saturday on the fall team. maybe 2?
torches are covered. need to make sure that those who are bringing torches also bring hoses and y connects.
shirts are done. benches are done except for the couple sheets of cement board i have to screw down. kiln shoud be here this week just have to build the table for it. donations should be here this week as well.
2 weeks from today! wow this is coming up fast.

Hey Zoar, what time do you want us to start to show up on Saturday morning?
B.C. Creations

8 or 9am? i got a few more things to do to get ready. just minor things tho. still waiting on donations. kiln should be here early next week. i hope. glass alchemys package should be here by the end of the week. still waiting on abr and glasscraft. other than that ducks are in a row.
everyone is gonna have to bring their own drinks. i think i got a bar to put on sloppy joes and chips all day saturday for us. the bar is about 3 miles away. not sure what else to do about food. there will be two grills there, plenty of firewood for the fire pit and some shaded camping spots.
should be a fun time for sure. i hope for no drama and lots and lots of respect for my bro and his property. we just have to remember this is ultimately for the kids so leave the egos at home.
looking forward to meeting all of you and having a blast in the process.
see you all on the 9th

thanks dave. got the other shipment today. thanks! you are always welcome to show up.
dont think the candles will help much but sure. spray, foggers, candles, bug net what ever you can bring. after dark work in the shop is gonna suck severely so we are gonna have to get most of our work done during the daylight hours.
i have an older 99ls that is for sale. needs some tlc. the shell is good but most of the brick is shot and it needs some rewiring done to it. might be an easy project if your handy. its an anolog control. i picked it up for 200 with the intention of fixing it and reselling it. id sell it for the 200 i got stuck into it if anyone wants it or im gonna fix it somewhere down the road and sell it for more.
only waiting on one more donation package. other than that everything looks to be in order.
BRING HOSES AND YS IF YOUR BRINGING YOUR TORCH!!! i dont have any extra hoses. one of my furnished stations has a lynx on it for the torch so we may wanna put something in its place.
BRING A GRAPHITE PAD FOR THE STATION IF YOUR BRINGING YOUR TORCH. i dont have any extras
other than that travel safe getting here and i look forward to meeting all of you.

Thanks again to Zoarglass, The BC crew and family for having all of us and for the hospitality. It's always at least a bit strange working at an unfamiliar bench, but damn, felt right at home with the group of people there this weekend, you guys are all good people in my book! And thanks to the sponsors that helped put this thing on, big props to the supply end of this industry, you guys really help keep this industry tight-knit.
And I really want to thank ICARUS, your splitters were fuckin awesome man!

Agreed, this was lots of fun. Much respect and thanks to zoarglass and co. for a everything!
The best part was meeting everyone and working with a top notch crew, there was so much talent and enthusiasm in the shop this weekend! The Upper Midwest flamework scene is looking hotter than GanjaKru's beloved premix.
I'm definitely down for next year too, hope to see you all again soon!
