That's pretty cool. So it's 64mm tubing that ranges from as low as 1.2 mm thick to as high as 5.2?

heh.. didn't notice that spec. prolly +-/0.2 on the wall thickness.. but.. we'll let you know.

I wonder what the formula is like, whether Kimax has changed over the years?

that would pretty much be my assumption as well... even REALLY old like pre-WW2 glass was better than that.

Could be misplaced on the label, and be 2mm on the OD or something... but even then.... .2mm is more in line with what I've seen on glass.

antony's gonna find out.. we got cases from something like 88 92 96 98 02 06.. nothing newer =)

i remember ordering some kimble in 2002 and getting some 96.. here i thought it was old back then..

I doubt that the wall is wildly uneven too, of course. 2 mm on the OD makes sense.

Use to buy a lot of cases of Kimble in 1982-83. they came bundled in 3 10lb packs, 30lbs. Pyrex was 25 lb's to a case. Pope scientific out of Menominee falls use to have the best prices, don't know if there still in business, but it was cheap for cases.

yea, there were some pretty old one's in there. i am not sure what the oldest we found was. i'll ask the fellas in the warehouse and find out.

i had fun just reading all the labels from different time periods. it's like a timeline of kimble labels out there. some of the older one's look so old school, like they were printed off a commodore or something.

Check the old old stuff. They used to have a different formula that was greener and stiffer with less working time than pyrex. But that was a long time ago.

I, too have a few cases on their way :)

If you want to know ABR's shipping price, just add it to your cart online then begin to check out and it'll show you.

Unlike Mountain Glass Arts who wont ship your order until you pay them them EXTRA every order to ship it because their website underquotes, ABR will ship it for what they actually quote it for. And if I'm not mistaken, bigger orders go pallet to be even cheaper for you but those arent quoted on the web.

For a 50lb box ABR quoted me a price of $89 to ship on 50lb case of tubes.

Same. MGA has been great everytime I have dealt with them.

Shipping calculators for websites suck for people shipping boxes like we do. They are based on weight, and the dimensional thing really screws us. The 65" box is very out of the norm for parcel shipping. So, when cases are estimated online, it's rarely correct. If you need an accurate shipping quote, you'd have to call and have one of us run it real quick.

For the most part, a single 65" box, with a case of glass in it is going to be about 35-40 bucks these days. Though some areas, (MT,OR, WA, and N. Cali), are even higher. This is due to not enough shipping lanes in that area of the country. I've seen it as high as 70 bucks for a 50 lb case going to MT. Gas prices are driving freight prices up as well. Fuel surcharges are killing right now.

Boxes and packing systems are very expensive as well. The shipping industry is a complete racket. But, we do all we can to keep it down.

Cool retro case. Quick question, has anyone ever recieved a case of Kimble wrapped in cardboard and plastic wrap?

daveabr

Kato>>>>> if you got one of our overstock cases, it may have come out of a "Kimble Bulk Pack"

These are literally pallets, with a system of super heavy cardboard dividers, stacked with tubing. So, there are no actual "cases". We just weigh it out to the stock case weight. So, we then have to wrap in corrugated cardboard and plastic in order to ship it.

It comes cheap if you buy bulk packs. We have them for 44 and 50 heavy wall Kimble in stock. We can even get lower than the 2.50 per lb mainline sale price we currently have. Bulk packs usually weight about 700 lbs. Some of the larger shops in the country have already been saving TONS of cash by doing this for tube production. It's a no brainer if you are killing cases of 50 x 5 Simax by the dozens

Yea, some areas are really bad right now on freight pricing.

Not much we can do about it. Sorry bout that.

Thx Dave I was curious as to why all my other Kimble cases were nice and neat and than one just looked like total crap. I was worried I was sent some china or something. Thanks for clearing that up.
