Hey TG
A few months ago I took a few lessons on the torch, and I've been really excited to keep it up. I'm about ready to pick up a few lessons and a few hours more of practice again, but was thinking I should grab a set of glasses and some boro, and I'm a compleat noob, was totally hopping some one might help with what sizes to get and how to go about doing so. I've been thinking of ordering from nortel in Ontario seeing that's were I live. Any advice would be great, thanks TG!

i don't know about the shipping charges to Canada but ive been buying alot of "northstar odds" from ABR recently. good color at a good price.

as for sizes of clear tube it really depends on what torch your gonna melt it with and what your trying to make.

Check this page out. Here is a great way to try different sized clear tube and rod.

If you live near a place, go and do your shopping in person. Show your face to the retailer and make friends, they will be happy to point you in various directions.

If you've got good hippie moves, kidnap the person who taught you lessons and take them with you to Nortel; makes a great field trip.

Welcome to the MP, glad to know you are stoked on glass. Questions are good.

Hope to see pics soon.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I figured that I would post this link too. RTB beat me to it. It's a great starter package, and in addition to that I would also grab one "sample pack" of color from a good manufacturer, Northstars or Glass Alchemy would work take your pick. Then based upon the tube/rod sizes and colors you like, order more of them for whatever you want later! Have fun and good luck

Nortel should be fine until you start ordering big quantities. Odds and Seconds are perfect for learning, and the shipping from ABR Imagery isn't too bad. There's also a place in London called Artistry in Glass - they have a huge selection on their website, but they don't stock anything. They're still pretty quick though.
Also, Pegasus glass in Cambridge is awesome for tube and clear rod, but they only sell by the case.

Where in Ontario are you?

Best advise: do not buy, is addictive. Unfortunately I see you are already smitten.

Delta9, where are you getting your learning information from for the flower implosion pendants? If you don't mind.

Hey, If you are close enough to Nortel in TO just stop in there during business hours. Even if you aren't that close, it would be helpful to stop in there just once.

I live about 4hrs from TO and I still find reasons to drive out that way just to pick out my glass slowly while chit chatting with the staff. They also ship at a decent shipping rate, and delivery is pretty quick.

Anyhow.... Where abouts in Ontario you at? And where did you take lessons?

Like i said i cannot take credit for the flowers, they were demos:),
I did a few lessons with Brian Newman out in Hamilton, i met him here on the site but he had to move his shop, and due to funds and a few other distractions I've been slackin' for a cupple months.
Oh by the way I live just outside of London.
And hey Bo didles I messaged you a few months ago about possible lessons and torch time, but like I said I've been a little destracted but have been thinking of giving you a shout, I still have your number, I'm glad to see you commented! Are the lessons and torch time still available !?
