so ABR has Fused Quartz tubes and rods in tons of different sizes and I understand this is glass fused with quartz not solid quartz, but my question is can I use these rods as quartz nails in a dome set up? or will it not take the heat from a butane torch like the solid quartz rods you can get?

i believe quartz nails are all fused quartz. So i think this will work for what you need it to.

I e-mailed one of the companies I found that were advertising pure quartz rods and they said what they were selling was solid quartz and not fused.. right over $5/ft vs the fused quartz is right over $7 for a whole 4ft rod

so Wiki says....
"The extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, about 5.5×10−7/°C (20–320 °C), accounts for its remarkable ability to undergo large, rapid temperature changes without cracking"

Thanks for the link Doug

fused quartz is a bitch to work and you'll need shade 8 specs and really good ventilation.

I'm pretty sure any GE/Momentive quartz we use, will be fused. I know there are others but what we get should be all fused.

you get fused quartz and fused silica, one is natural and one is synthetic and technicaly its vitreous silica.

So one thing I was wondering is what is better for a fuming rod? Sounds to me like fused will work fine... Right?..

quality does go all the way back to the raw materials used to make a product.... doesn't excuse marketing spam.
