Im a total noob when it comes to glassblowing, i'm mainly going to focus on pipemaking/pendant making. I live in Cali in the Monterey area and love the 215 scene. mmm yee thats about it.
I havent started anything yet, like I said im a total noob.
My question pertains to my gear, or the gear im at about to acquire.
The setup im am going to purchase
-nortel midrange no top burner
-1 oxy tank size5 251 for sure
-bbq size propane tank
-regulators sand flashback arrestors
-various graphite tools
-10lbs of various color glass
-a free lesson
-dvd on glassblowing

all for 500$ local. does this sound like a good deal?

I'm also wondering what my limits on this torch is going to be. like what size tubing am i limited to?

id appreciate any tips, advice, or warnings mahalo!

Welcome! Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Don't forget about a kiln, you'll really want one of those. Plenty of good info on this site. Search function is magic.

I had a major/minor and could work 44 on it but it took a while. I'd start with some 25 heavy wall tube for starting out. It's big enough to work with but not overwhelming when starting out.

Others may have a better option for you though

Sounds like a solid deal to me. Welcome to the pot man. The best piece of advice is "listen up" cause you can learn alot here.

Definately a good deal. Keep an eye on craigslist for a kiln. You can use a turkey pan with vermiculite for a start. Small pendants and surface worked spoons will usually do OK on vermiculite, but a kiln keeps thicker/larger pieces from cracking. The controlled cooling of glass (annealing) is important.

Yeah, that sounds like a decent deal depending on the condition of everything.

Don't forget you'll also need some eye protection, didyiums + clip on shade 4/5 s at the least.
