I was wondering who here on the forum will be at the Glass Art Society Conference (http://www.glassart.org/2011_Seattle_WA.html) in a couple weeks? It's in Seattle this year and should be KILLER. :bouncy:

I'll be demonstrating on Saturday at 8:30am in the Convention Center (originally Kevin O'Grady's spot) so if you're there and AWAKE at that time come and watch me work! As of right now, I'm planning on making a dragonfly hovering over some smaller bug, somewhat similar to this piece (which is in the Conference Live Auction):

I hope to meet some of you there!

I'll be around the conference a little but have so many family things to do those days I won't be around much. My studio is open if someone wants to colab or needs a spot to work. I'm about 45 min from Seattle, Duvall area.

Hey Nate, will that still be going on in the evening, before the closing party/during? I'd like to get over there Saturday, but have to work the booth until 4 I think. Pack up, and out of there by 5. Looks like a sweet event. Looking forward to it.

You Jason & others I haven't met in-person yet, I look forward to getting to know you! :D I hope to meet other folks from this board there too - please be sure to introduce yourselves!

I'd def looking forward to this HUGE collabo at Dizzle's studio. Should be epic!

Here's what I aim to make, Saturday morning 8:30am - 10:00am. I've done three practice runs and have it comfortably under the 1.5 hour time limit!

Last time it was in Seattle you could see all the vendors for free with out registering. This time I went down expecting the same thing and was told it was 120 per day+ membership just to see the tool area. Guess I'll be spending most of the $ I was planning to spend on glass tools/supplies on other things not related to our industry. Big FUCK YOU to GAS.

yea, we too were bummed that the vending area was restricted to pass holding members only. it's never been that way in the past.

i feel like, maybe membership only would've been appropriate. i mean we are all glass "artists", so if there is one thing we could and should support more, it's GAS. i know i've absorbed endless knowledge and skills at GAS over the years. also, with those passes, we got all kinds of great demos, free shuttling, good parties, great local coupons, admission to the SAM and the otherwise ticketed Nick Cave exhibit which was AMAZING. so, i see their point too.

sorry for the inconvenience. i will try to find out the scoop next year well in advance.

anyway, i will be offering some of the goodies from GAS in the Vendor's Glassifieds.

I had a great time, and Dizzle's party was off the chain.

BEAST>>>> great meeting you. my 7 year old thought that the beetle I bought was real!!!!!!!! they were like, NO WAY!!!!

it was nice hanging with you. great grubdown with Morio, Howard, Karl, and Mazet on Thursday night!

Wow. Just WOW!!! The collab/party at Dizzle's was epic and I don't use that word very often. We arrived and there was a gate attendant, food tents with massive barbeque and spread of all sorts of food, port-a-potties, and that was all before getting in to where the action was. I bet there were 300 people there.

Jason - sorry I missed you, Chris Hansen said you left before I got there... heard you went down all the steps backwards in your chair, you nut!

Dave - it was great meeting you, too, and dinner with Morio was funny. What a guy. And I'm glad your daughter loves the bug! I'm always happy to inspire appreciation for nature in the next generation.

My demo was incredibly well - better than the practice runs. I didn't get around to make the foot on it, as I wanted time for Q&A.

A lot of things happened during the week that really made it a blast too, not parts of GAS (necessarily), but just awesome. The Nick Cave exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum was CRAZY, and I think the post-GAS beach barbeque party helped top it off. I didn't even know Seattle had beaches.

Funniest part had to be going back to Dizzle's studio and hanging out with Ben Burton, Elbo, and some random guy. After like 30 minutes I realized it was JD Maplesden AFTER SHAVE AND A HAIRCUT... I guess Diz didn't recognize him either, when JD was passed out on the couch and his tatted arm was underneath him :rollin

I'm going to post a bunch of photos (some from Diz' party) on Facebook tomorrow or the next day, and will try to get some up on here too...
