I really like the snow blower idea... i can see some cool stuff coming from that idea.

Also I am super stoked to be with my new best friend in the whole world Icarus....

..who is a PIMP and he knows why :)

Those albums are the hotness.

what about making a 12 inch or so taller full snowblower bubbler. reversal pattern rims with black tube for wheels. bowl in the engine. mouth piece in the hand grips. carb is the crank for turning the spout. maybe display it with broken glass scrap in front of the part people cut their fingers off with. make a 'glassblower' instead of a snowblower. just a thought...........

and we can make more than one winter piece if we have time.

Sounds cool.... Haha I like it. We could do a snowblower scene in a snowglobe shape as a chamber on something. What ever we do let's have fun. I can't wait. Pm or call me if you guys wanna brainstorm somemore.

Wow. This is sounding really cool. I love the "glass blower" idea.

Now here's the part where I offer a mea culpa (actually just a heads up so you know what you're getting into).

I have been mostly doing jewelry (pendants, beads, marbles, whatnot) up until the start of this year. It's just in like January that I started doing pipes. So my tubing skills are coming along, but they are the skills of a guy who only started to get serious about making pipes six months ago, and gets to work on a torch at best 6-10 hours a week. So I'm definitely going to be the novice of the bunch.

IsthmusColor knows about where I'm at (and many thanks to him for assisting in getting me along this far), but I just wanted to give you a guy a heads up. I've seen most of your work either in person or online, and am blown away every time. You guys are a skilled set. I'm incredibly happy (and somewhat nervous) to be working along side all of you.

IndiePendent

@zoar - Yes. That would be so sick. I love the idea. Also we coukd do the carb as a glass on glass removal part coming out of the blower portion and make it look like its actually blowing snow.

@Icky - Aint no thang but a chicken wing sir. You will be fine, you dont have to be nervous in the least. This is meant to be a fun time and to raise some loot for a good cause.

That being said.... WINTER TEAM WITH OUR POWERS COMBINED......

LOL

EDIT: Zoar are there any hotels bmup there by you. I appreciate the offer to crash on the lawn and what not but I am way to partial to running water and air conditioning, so if possible I am gonna get a hotel room that can certianly be used to after hours party in ;)

B.C. Creations

no worries icarus. i told you that already.

i gave everyone a 1 thru 4 rating depending on what they told me skill levels were. then put one leader for each team. then down the list. every team ended up with one 1 two 2s a 3 and a 4. the only team to end up with no 4 was our winter team. it was all luck of the draw. so some of you may have been humble when you told me. but thats ok. i think the teams are even enough.

making a t shirt for everyone to commenorate the event. hoping for a 'donation' at the event to help cover the costs of em

how many stations are we gonna have per team?

B.C. Creations
05-26-2011, 05:03 PM
atleast 2. i have 8 bench spots and we might be able to squeeze one or two more in here and there. plus one lathe station.

built the other bench spots this week. up graded my vents a bit. just gotta get two more fans and some concrete board. my shop is a 3 car garage with a 16ft door and an 8ft door and a wall in the middle of the shop with a patio door to seperate the two bays. in the large bay i have our 4 bench spots plus my lathe station which will have torches ready to go. the smaller bay has 3 bench spots with no torches and my demo bench. maybe able to squeeze one or two more in the smaller bay? have to see when we get going.

After we finish them, over to the wet saw. We slice them up, and then reassemble them so it looks like:

winter-winter-winter-winter-winter-spring-winter-winter-spring-winter-spring-spring-winter-spring-winter-winter-spring-spring-spring-spring-winter-spring-spring-spring-spring

We'll call it "the first six months of this year in Wisco"

no i dont think i want them to be 'put' together with gong fittings. i think that will look too cobbled.

On a different note. We should prolly figure out what colors to get..... ideas gentlemen?

i dunno bout u guys...i like star white...for a white

IndiePendent
06-01-2011, 09:07 AM
I would say star white for the snow, raven for the black wheels and any accents, orange or yellow for the body of the piece, and some combination for the reversals in the wheels.and such. This is all going off of zoars snow blower idea

Icarus

I like Coyle Condensers list for clear, it looks to me like it would cover most of our needs:

50mm hvy tubing
30mm hvy tubing
22mm hvy tubing
1/2inch hvy tubing
9mm hvy tubing

30mm rod
1 inch rod
1/2 inch rod
10mm rod
8mm rod
6mm rod

As for colors, I was thinking something like "NS - Star white (or similar)", "TAG - Stardust", cobalt, NS - jet black, maybe some lighter opaque blues, etc...

IndiePendent
06-01-2011, 12:40 PM
If we wanna do vack stacks we will need 25mm tubing for the inside

thoughts on paper of what i had in my head......just a thought. we dont have to go with this idea. we can do something else.

i like the list but not sure what the sponsors will be able to donate. i will get them a list and go from there.

this is comin up soon! cant wait!

i will have most of that raw in my shops stock for sure. colors are going to be the hardest part to get on donations.

we can make multiple pieces if time allows us to. i could see doin this as a main piece and making a cpl smaller pieces to go along with it. just have to keep the theme as winter is all.

ideas on smaller projects?

Snow flake/icesicle chillum? Fireplace shaped spoon w/ chimney mouthpiece, winter color implosion beads for a few wearables?

Icarus

The snowblower chute keeps on making me think of an errl curve. Or perhaps if we want to connect the bowl using a GonG joint, we could also make a nail holder and cover (yeah, I know they have a name, and I can't think of it right now) that could be swapped in place of the bowl. Not sure if we want to go in that direction (or if we want to keep the bowl as part of the main piece instead of a seperate piece), but if that is the case, perhaps a dish and dabber set to go with it? If not, perhaps a jar, chillum, and slider set to go with it, using the same color scheme or tube pull? Just throwing stuff out there.

Or perhaps , going off the ground joint idea, we want to make the body (in the drawing where the bowl is noted) just have a carb on the side, and we make the show chute the full chute arc, but have a recessed female joint at the top of the arc to receive a male ground joint slider. Then, each of us could also make a separate slider to go into it, so the piece comes with several different bowls, one made by each artist, but the piece itself is a team project.

Or, or, or, how about two recessed ground joints, one where the bowl is noted in the diagram, and one where I noted in the last paragraph. The carb is still built into the main body of the piece, and you can choose which female joint you want insert the slide into. The other side will get a solid plug with a marble on top to plug it. We could once again go back to the idea of each artist making a slide or plug (if they felt more like doing a marble type piece than a bowl).

Or we could abandon the ground joint altogether because that last paragraph is starting to border on gimmicky. What can I say, I was a Lego kid. I loved pulling shit apart and sticking it in different places. That was my favorite thing about metal pieces way back in the day. Picking up pieces here and there along the way that you one day assembled together and made your ultimate pipe (with the understanding that part of your ultimate pipe might be made out of repurposed lamp parts), and each one of those pieces had a story, though you might not fully remember it.

So yeah, that's kind of what was knocking around in my head.

not sure if i wanna use gongs on here? they are hard to hide and dont look fluid if you ask me. we can see when we are all standing there. i like the idea of making a set tho. that would be nice.

i like your second idea for a bub or tube project. that would be sick!

we need to come up with colors to order.

i say.....
unobtanium
star white
crayon orange or something similar
jet black

we need some other kinds of blues and what else? i got the clear list ready and i might have most of that in my stock.

FizZle
06-09-2011, 10:57 PM
i vote poppy as the orange, second the star white/unob/Jet black...blue maybe NS Blue ice might be cool to have a little of maybe layer some over unobtanium...maybe some turbo cobalt, blue moon im down with pretty much anything though

What about red Elvis for the body of the snowblower? I can bring some Elvis tubing and rod. Smaller stuff snowshovel, snowshoes, snowman jar. I can see a winter scene with these pieces arranged on o pile of white frit.

IndiePendent
06-11-2011, 10:27 AM
Zoar I agree on the gong thing. That is why we go recessed style ;)

B.C. Creations
06-11-2011, 12:44 PM
somewhere someone had mentioned orange for the body but im down for either. if you can bring the elvis rod and tube that would be fine by me. we will use if for something.

ill put white frit on the list.....

dp

o ya.....we will have to talk about the gong thing when we all get together. not sure if i know what you guys are tryn to explain.....i do know what the recessed ones are tho

FizZle
06-11-2011, 06:18 PM
...i dont think we need to attach all the seperate pieces togeather with gong...sounds kinda janky...but definitely gong for function

Icarus
06-11-2011, 06:59 PM
I might be using the wrong terminology. Basically what I was thinking was doing a ring seal at the top of the female ground joint, so it's not exposed (so if you look at the piece in profile, you wouldn't know it was there) so it doesn't fuck up the flow of the piece, but allows you to change out bowls or put on an errl attachment.

I don't think the entire thing should be put together with ground joints, it might have sounded differently than that since I was talking about metal pieces from back in the day, that was more me going off topic and rambling.

IsthmusColor
06-12-2011, 09:14 AM
we can use a female dewar gog to keep a low profile/hide the joints. I can bring those to.:twitch:

FizZle
06-12-2011, 09:35 AM
im down with the elvis for sure rather than an orange...i like the idea of the recessed ground joint for sure...thought somone was saying that they wanted to try and make all the pieces attach to each other from each team with gong...that seems wonky to me...but definitely use gong for the piece and recessed would be cool...i have had no success accomplishing a recessed gong...soooo it would be sweet to see one of u pimps show how its done
